Deus Ex Revision Mod

Then just use this Revision mod. It's free and comes with the GOG version of Deus Ex and is installed separately from the main game (so you have the option to launch the original (that you can mod yourself) or the Revision mod with all the annoying configuration and tweaks already applied. + It spruces up the graphics, adds some quality of life improvements and balances some strange design choices (OP regen aug is nerfed, master tier of medicine skill has the biggest boost in med kit recovery, etc). + It adds some achievements, a new game plus option and includes some goofy and challenging extra difficulty options. + I mean, I've played the original a LOT and the actual level layout doesn't really change. And if it did, it was subtle enough that I didn't notice. I think only a handful or two of items throughout the entire game were added by this mod or moved around by this mod. All critical items weren't touched though. + And I should really highlight that the Revision mod *DOESN'T CHANGE THE STORY AT ALL* Here's what's not so good though: - Remade/New Soundtrack Kinda Sucks: Well, it's actually not bad and I didn't mind using it for my gazillionth playthrough. However, I thought the original soundtrack was much better. YOU CAN SWITCH TO THE ORIGINAL MUSIC in the Revision mod if you want though. So there's no harm done with the mod author's remaking the soundtrack, because you can swap back to the original at any time. - One Pretty Bad NPC: There was only one NPC added by this mod... i think. It was in Hong Kong near the club. The voice acting wasn't that great (especially when compared to the charming qualities of the rest of the game's voices), and didn't contain anything useful at all. I didn't really care though because I just skipped past this NPC. So yeah. Ultimately I recommend using this if you don't wanna tweak the original game or are looking for some extra graphics, gameplay balances and difficulty options to spice things up.

I completed a play through of this mod a while back. It did indeed add much to the game, sometimes too much tho which broke up the flow of a level, turning it into a maze or forcing you down a particular path or confrontation that was hard to avoid. The thing about the Deus Ex series was, and is especially relevant to the first game, is choice. All the missions had multiple paths, you could go through almost the entire game just "ghosting" your way and remaining undetected by enemies. With this mod I found that choice not so clear cut. The new music isn't bad, but the original OST is still a classic and my choice when I was playing this mod. Overall, this is a good attempt to update Deus Ex but I can't recommend it over GMDX, Nihilum, Zodiac or the wonderfully crazy Nameless Mod. If you have already played those other mods then my advice is, sure, give it a go and if not, go for GMDX first then those others. The Nameless Mod in particular had some really funny moments! :)

Before i will start throwing trash at the bads, let me mention the goods Maps are amazing, so far every location get better, well almost Liberty Island with this mod is fantastic and feels right Unatco HQ is messy, i like integration of shooting range and interogation room NYC is fantastic Battery Part have nice makeover, Hells kitchen feels right Balance changes to melee and ranged weapons are Agreeable New textures looks good (not for characters - trash) BADS: So 1st of all game reward you for killing and promote only 1 true weapon Sniper Rifle i love going rifles and using Sniper in original, but now i get bonus skillpoints for killing from kilometers and i find it ruining the experience i love playing Pacifist Deus Ex and for Revision that means i don't get skill points or i m willing to stun prod everyone for 1/3-1/5 of sniper rifle shot points xD Special kind of pacifist you see, i don't just play without killing i lure people to get murdered by turrets or immortal characters in revision Paul can murder entire lib island front and gunther can clean the rest congratulation player, 0 skillpoints in Original i also had 0 skillpoints for it, but WHY ALTERNATIVES GET REWARDS In battery Park i ask my woman to murder everyone in Castle and Subway in Revision everything can trigger tripwires so enemy tranquilized can run into them xD this force me to vent murder everyone, Anna trigger tripwires and my tactic does not work :( Ambrosia is behind fence so i had to intentionally Scare billy to open it or worse play as developers wanted me to play xD New York City was mostly fine, i like new places to visit, don't like smugglers hideout makeover You can say playstyle where i ask people to do my work should not reward me, but in oriignal it was VALID CHOICE and i loved it Pacifism is most dominating and brutal way to play such games and getting shorten on rewards feels bad Playing as Ghost also sht on you, enemies left non-unconcious/dead does not reward anything

Revision is an excellent mod that respects the base game while adding new depth. It keeps the original Deus Ex gameplay and mechanics and, unlike other mods, does not mess with the core formula. It is one of the oldest Deus Ex mods and the level of polish that it has achieved after those years truly shows. It was obviously made by people who have an endearing love for the original, and it is clear that they truly understand its gameplay and philosophy. The new additions to the maps, whether computer logs, or new rooms, or hidden items etc. are done in such a seemless way that it is impossible to tell what is original and what was added. The maps are now laid out in such a way that all skills and augmentations become relevant and useful. Nothing overshadows anything else. There was clearly great effort made here with lots of playtesting. About the music, I was sceptical at first, but it turned out excellent. The new tracks are longer it seems and really are great at setting the mood. The composers are clearly talented individuals. The only negative critique I have of Revision is that there are some indestructible doors that have a wood texture. The fact that this small nitpick is the most that I could find during my playthrough speaks volumes on the quality of this mod. I dislike calling Revision a “mod”. This is now the Definitive Edition of Deus Ex. I would highly advise new players to play Revision rather than Vanilla. You will get the true Deus Ex experience. Only play Vanilla to see how it used to look. I can almost guarantee that you will switch back to Revision as your default. PS: And for those who want a more heavily modded experience, Revision offers a massive selection of options to tailor your experience, far too many to list in a review like this. It gives you the option to change the game style by selecting to use Vanilla maps, if you want, along with Vanilla music, as well as changing the game mode to the terrific Shifter/Biomod.

I don't know why Revision gets so much hate here. No reason for it. It is a great update to vanilla. Some say GMDX, but you will hate the 2nd half of the game with that as it turns enemies into bullet sponges. Same guy you kill in the beginning, will now take twice as much to kill him in the 2nd half. Add in here that ammo and health drops get scarce in the 2nd half too. Revision did this a little different... Instead of bullet sponges, you just get more enemies. That is a better way to work it if you ask me. Revision changes some things yes, but you don't have to use them. It is essentially a mod pack. Don't like a feature? Turn it off! You don't have to use any part that you don't like. You can make Revision look and handle exactly like the original if you wanted to. I personally like what I see with this mod pack. Was stunned at how good it looks after playing this game 20 years ago.
