Opis
Twenty years after the events depicted in the multi-award-winning Deus Ex, the world is just beginning to recover from The Collapse. As an elite agent-in-training, you must match wits against numerous militant factions bent on violently reshaping the world to suit their own agendas. Armed with a multitude of high-tech gadgets and cyberpunk bio-mods, you are granted nearly superhuman powers. Travel the globe to uncover fiendish plots and convoluted conspiracies of world domination. Unmask the conspirators, and discover the shocking truth behind your own origins.

Deus Ex: Invisible War features the open-ended gameplay of its predecessor: use multi-tools and trickery to get past your opponents, or just turn their technology against them as you hack their turrets and computer systems. Along with bio-mods and choices that let you mould your character as you desire, take advantage of the numerous ways to customize your weaponry whether it’s to increase their rate of fire or clip capacity. Last but not least, take advantage of the various factions, such as the Omar who have the only black-market bio-mods, to further your aims.

Who should you trust? Who should you fight? Every decision you make affects the world around you. A good choice for RPG and action fans alike!

  • RPG-ish design allowing for multiple solutions to every quest, whether through stealth and treachery or all guns blazing!
  • A selection of unique biomods such as the Neural Interface that allows you to hack computers or Cloak to hide from enemies, cyberpunk style.
  • Globe-hop to real world locations such as Seattle, London, and Cairo.

It had a lot to live up to

I try not to criticize stuff that's trying something new purely because it is different, even if it's not what I expected. It's extremely important to keep innovating and I am a firm believer in the concept that video game developers should not give us what we want, but what we don't know we need. So it is absolutely not the fact that it is different that bothers me here. It's the fact that they're going in the wrong direction. It greatly streamlines and simplifies some of the more complex aspects of the first one, leading to substantially less choices for the player, taking away a lot of what we love the most. I get it; I'm sure there were a lot of people who felt that the first one was simply overwhelming. It's not for everyone. Honestly, it’d be fine to make a version of this that was simplified for people who want that, similar to how some tough games have difficulty settings where the easiest really coddles players, so that people who aren't yet ready for the regular experience can play it. And I can appreciate that maybe it would have been difficult to make this contain both of these versions. If that is the case then I kind of wish that they had just not made it at all. Human Revolution does retain some of the streamlining, but it gets much closer to the original, and is honestly probably right there in the Goldilocks zone, though I do prefer the original. Augmentations are changed to where it feels way less final when you make a specific decision. The inventory no longer distinguishes between whether something you're carrying is tiny, huge or anywhere in between. In the first one if you want to carry a ton of tiny little things, like chocolate bars and soda cans, you can. If you want to carry a rocket launcher, you have to make sure you have room for that. Not so here. You can also only carry a very small number of items and it just doesn't feel like it's forcing you to very carefully choose what to carry and what to leave as much as almost kneecapping you.

The Very First Console Immersive Sim

As the title suggests, this is a console game. It was built for the OG Xbox first and foremost. In fact, it was the very first immersive sim ever built with consoles in mind, as only Arx Fatalis preceded it but was built for the PC and then had to be pared back in some ways to fit on console. Deus Ex Invisible War is the first true immersive sim built for console. So with that in mind, that's how I'll judge it. Judging it as a PC game in the same way you'd judge Deus Ex doesn't make much sense. The original Deus Ex could still be argued to this day as the greatest PC game ever made, so the fact that Invisible War doesn't live up to it as an immersive sim or a PC game should have been expected. First off, you'll probably have to mod this version of the game. The Xbox version has a pretty bad frame rate but is generally smooth from a technical standpoint. There aren't many bugs to speak of. The same can't be said for its PC port. As for the game itself, it's very good. Especially when you compare it to many console games at the time of its release. It's very unique in comparison to many of them. If you're coming from Deus Ex, expect a pared back immersive sim experience. Some of the design decisions attributed to its console origins don't even make sense in that context. The universal ammo system isn't something you'd see on console shooters at the time, so Ion Storm went a bit too far even for consoles in that situation. But ultimately, every scenario you find yourself in this game will have multiple ways through, which is what I personally think matters the most when it comes to a game like this. And though the play spaces are smaller, Ion Storm clearly went for density. Invisible War is a dense experience and it doesn't outstay its welcome either. The story itself is very much worthy of the series and has a far better presentation than the original Deus Ex. In the end, this is a console game and that isn't a bad thing. IW is absolutely worth playing.

I liked the hub areas

Invisible War is worse than the original game in almost every way, and Deus Ex was far from perfect. The inventory is bizzare, the combat is repetitive, the story is confusing. However, Invisible War contains several open hub areas, full of side quests and exploration. I really enjoyed these sections, and they're unlike anything in the original game. Invisible War isn't a very long game, and I felt that it was worth playing for these sections alone, even if the more linear shooting sections are garbage.

Avoid like the plague

This game took everything its Progenitor did and threw them out the window. Levels are small and figuring out how to get past security if you didn't take the black market hacking augmentation (there is no penalty for using illegal augs) is as easy as looking to the left of the door for the GIANT air vent. I wish this game had never been created.

More like Deus Ex:Invisible Walls

This is the single worst sequel to any game ever. When you take away everything that made the fiest game good and just make the graphics better and try to tell people its the successor to one of the greatest games of all time, your screwed from the start.
