Deus Ex™ GOTY Edition

Deus Ex is a masterpiece. It represents everything that is good about the gaming industry. It also represents everything that is wrong with it too. There is simply no excuse for not playing Deus Ex. If you own a computer, lest use a computer, it is your duty to go and play this game. Its vividly unnnerving atmosphere, deep plot, outstanding script and unmatched gameplay simply transform Deus Ex into electronic art. Its music and sound effects are tremendously terrific and only makes the deliciously dystopian atmosphere all the more thicker and viscereal. Game mechanics aside, DE's ability to comment on such interesting and important matters such as human and biological engineering, artificial intelligence, corporate control, personal liberty, privatized law & order and government conspiracy are perhaps unmatched in any game. Playing Deus Ex in a post 9/11 world is disturbingly surreal. So, do yourself justice and play this game. Play it twice; heck, do a triple run playthrough. There are secret areas, hidden dialogues, scripted events that you WILL miss in the first play through. It will be the best $10 you will spend in a long, long time. Just be warned though. After playing Deus Ex, you will release that the mid to early 90s to early 2000s really were the golden years for gaming (well, at least for PC gaming). So enjoy your stay and take your time, because there will be plenty of it before any game ever again reaches the greatness of Deus Ex.

theres a sensation of freedom and acomplishment in this game that i never felt in any other game. every way you choose to progress count in the world of Deus ex,stealth, run and gun, or in your own way, all this thanks to a exellent level design and a very balanced leveling up system, every FPS, RPG, and Stealth lover should pick this one up.

Many games claim that you have choices to make, multiple ways into the building and so on. But in Deus Ex, you really do. The number of alternative entrances, ventilation ducts, secret doors and hidden keypad locks is astonishing, giving you a real sense of finding your own way in and out. There's a perfectly balanced feeling of "DYI game experience" and taking part in a thrilling, excellently woven story.

This game is just freaking awesome! Can't believe it slipped under my radar, but I guess I was too into the MMORPG back when Deus Ex was released. BUY IT! NOW! You'll be glad you did. I needed the "Kentie's Launcher" mod to make the game run on Win 7 64-bit Pro. Then I added the "Biomod" and "New Vision" mods because they're good. If you use New Vision, you may want to select OpenGL as your renderer (is that a word?). OpenGL looks best on my system anyway. I play at 1024x768 on a 19-in monitor. You can use higher resolutions if you got the eyes for it.

You'll get your money's worth, that's for sure. Sure, the story sometimes drags and sometimes goes into some weird places sometimes, but there's hours and hours of stuff to do, sidequests and all, and it goes by at such a fast clip and so many gameplay choices early on have strong effects later on. Yeah, like all games the later levels suffer from "fourth disc" syndrome, where it seems to drag and just won't end, but that could also be because you don't want to stop playing. It's the mark of a great game that even when you aren't having fun anymore playing it (because you've played multiple 8-hour sessions on a work night) you still feel like you should be playing it. Playing at least the first act of Deus Ex should be considered mandatory for any self-respecting gamer.
