Love this game, LAN doesn't work
Title says it all. Really amazing game, but I really wish this game had working multiplayer to play with my friends. Played it locally at a party and it wouldn't connect to any host player. Really big shame, have been wanting to do that as a kid.

Futuristic arcade-y racer done well
I had a lot of fun this game back in early 2000's (on a P2 233 / Voodoo 2 setup). This is a Wipeout-like game for PC. It has everything you would expect for that genre: racing classes, weapons/bonuses, punchy music. The physics are in my opinion what really makes it stand out. They feel "right". Controls are difficult to master andn while you can "feel" the weight of the vehicles, they do not drive like trucks. Tracks do not have guardrails, which means you can fall off. What is more funny is that you can skip short portions of the track. Again, physics feel "right". Your car properly takes shock on the vertical axis as well, which means the nose can go up or down. This is done well and I think aged really good, controls are still fun today. The only downsides I see to this game: - minor gripe: the respawn mechanic (when you fall off the track or your car ends being upside-down) is not quite safe enough. It is not obvious at all to do so, and isn't very easy either, but it can be abused to skip small segments of the track. This is a matter of personal taste, but I think it should have been tweaked so that it couldn't be abused at all - maybe lacks a bit of personality. Musics are okay-ish - 4 cars total is okay-ish but a bit on the minimalist side - major gripe: only 4 track environments are available. While they look and play different, this is where the game is lacking the most - related: only 4 totally distinct tracks. Actually 4x3 tracks (3 tracks per environment), so 12 tracks total, but there are some shared tracks portions. This dividing a big track in multiple tracks is fine, but more track environments and/or more tracks, would've helped with lifespan - I got crashes from time to time. I'm not sure what is the cause for this. I'm not 100% sure but I think I got crashes back when I played it in early 2000's as well. Last but not least, this GOG.com re-release plays fine. You might want to tweak the game using dgVoodoo 2 to support widescreen ratios (guide is available no PCGamingWiki). If you don't, it plays fine in 4/3.

Best arcade racer ever
A rocket booster catapults your car past several 100 meters of track, landing (thanks to _just_ the right amount steering upon liftoff) in a 4 wheel slide through the last curve of the race, tethering over the edge of the track to grab the next booster, which luckily respawned just in time. But you cannot accelerate now, or you would strike that that zeppelin flying above the track straight ahead. You must wait 0.5 s, 1.0 s, 1.5 s. After aeons, the track (and the car on #3) drop away into a 50° angle below. You wait some more, until the nose of your car, dips just ever so slightly below the horizon, alowing the booster to fire downward and send you skimming at 550 kph a mere meter below that zep. Just in time to grab the next power-up, a IR missile you instantly fire at the car on #2. One IR blow does not kill, but the nudge will send the free falling car just beside the track. Your opponent should be teleported back up shortly after, but 2nd place is yours. The car on #1 however, is already reaching the starting grid. No booster in sight, still no track below the wheels, but you master this track, your car points straight to the finish line despite some bends in the track - and your laser overcharge is ready. You let fly, hoping for the best - but concentrating on _just_ the right amount of countersteering (impossible without good anlog input) for you own touch down at 300 kph. As you look back up, your oponnent is over the finish line - crackling with lightning and lifting up. Just as you finish yourself, a look at the indicators confirms: 1st of 10 (from 20 started; that laser helps when starting from last place always). As the camera pans, the bluish orbs of 2 explosions light the scene - apparently that car formerly on #2 was not brand new, either. And now: Why imagine these ~20 seconds of gameplay instead of living them? Dethkarz aged gracefully, has beautiful tracks and action and while winning in some cars is a challenge, its - well, a challenge!
