Never heard of the game until now so I don't know how it really was back at release, but.. It's just not good. It's not terrible, but it's just not good. It has a somewhat promising skill development, a good dark game setting, but it all falls apart the more you play. The conversations are non-sensical, sometimes going from one direction to another all of a sudden (dialog script), it virtually provides no meaningful dialog options. The world is locked so you can't really do any much of an exploration, mostly just follow the compass. It would not be an issue if the main story line was not, well, I guess non-sensical and too locked in a single direction where you cannot really do anything out of the expected progression. The game is pretty good at hinting out all of the alternative directions the game could potentially take, yet you cannot take any of them, because you are still locked in that one linear path - and it becomes more frustrating as the game goes on. It might have been a great game for the year, if the world was simply more open and offered more game changing decisions, a little more exploration, maybe some side things to do, different events, but hell it's just not fun when you are constantly skewered to that one dug out path with no options.

Your typical eurojank - janky as hell, but surprisingly enjoyable nontheless.

The game runs smoothly and the story is engaging enough. It's not a triple A game, but the experience is overall very pleasant, and practically every single dialogue is voice acted. It took me 26h to complete. Even though there are a few side quests, the game is overall linear, with exploring generally leading to more junky loot. Top bad: expect you character to look different between gameplay, images, and cutscenes Top good: it features the best voice acting of a zombie I've heard in a while :)

Just like Arcania (previous Gothic 4 ) that uses the same engine, this game seems to have been designed for something greater but the devs ended not reaching 20% of what they wanted to do, is like everything was rushed and half backed, feels very unfinished. But despite this is playable and can be fun, is also a game with a somewhat mature story and themes, is also a game with very black and white choices no gradation, choices that many times feel forced. About the gameplay is somewhat similar to Arcania, thou the RPG system is a tad more developed, but in all is still a simplistic action RPG.
