How about extending your car warranty?

To set the correct expectations it is worth noting that the game is based on a board game called Death Roads: All Stars that has been adapted to be a single player digital game. The player participates in a post-apocalyptic (the moon crashed into the Earth) TV game where they start at the west side of the USA and need to make it to the east side while battling mobs and other competitors (mini bosses) and at the end there is a boss battle. The game is a roguelike and if the player’s vehicle is destroyed they need to start a new run but the failed run might help with unlocking new vehicles and drivers. The game loop is similar to FTL: choose a path from one city to another and while on the road face combat encounters and random events. The city might have a garage to repair vehicle damage or a chop shop to buy and sell parts. And then repeat. In essence the game is a deck builder where the driver and each vehicle part have their own set of cards and combined they form the combat deck similar to Trials of Fire. There are also items that are not part of the deck that provide a small bonus if a particular requirement is met. The starter parts are pretty underwhelming, especially the tires since they only have turn left and turn right options but during the course of the game better parts will be acquired which will provide cards with much more functionality. There are a couple of obvious builds: making a nimble vehicle that can easily maneuver or a tank build with not much mobility but that can absorb damage and hits hard. The deck building and the card synergies are not very complex and that's a plus for me. The negatives: the battles can get a bit samey and the random events are uninspired. I’m quite happy with the game. In the right circumstances if you play your cards well you can set up a combo to bump into multiple enemies then appear behind them and spray them with the machine gun or push an enemy into an incoming obstacle. It can feel pretty satisfying

AADA though modern Wars

This is like modern Car Wars -with cards- made as a PC game. You're like part of the American AutoDuel Association in an official competition, you chose your driver, your car, and your West coast starting block, then go drive offensivly up to the East coast arrival of the race where you'll fight, with your by-the-way damaged upgraded car, the surviving other drivers, so you become the great winner. Excellent in theory. But it is a rogue-like game balanced for its endgame, so it is difficult boring to grind in order to you have more freedom to be able to choose how to play. So, you'll want to hack the game, have an unlocked save, to have immediatly the true fun, without the bore and frustration. My four stars is rather 3.5, at now. The devs should easily upgrade this, if they wanted to...

A Very Entertaining Rogue-like Card Game

The formula is similar to other games in the same genre : you pick a starting deck, you select the path to pick on the map, which is disseminated with fights, random events, shops and so on. The setting is a Mad Max kind of apocalyptic future, where the wasteland is filled with cars repurposed to be death machines, and you are competing in an event to gain access to the one city where civilization is still standing. The game has a lot of personality to it, thanks to how well it's themed: the deck is created by choosing a driver and a car (the driver provides 3 cards which are available every turn, the car decides starting "mana", armor, HP and a starting set of cards). Every encounter provides some scrap to spend at shops and you can select 1 out of 3 parts for your car (which swaps out a sub-group of cards for another, and might also provide extra bonuses to your stats). You have to unlock most options, though, so you have no choices to make in the beginning. In a game about vehicular combat, movement is very important, and you'll have to manage your gear (high gear grants bonuses to certain cards, but will cause you bigger penalties if you run out of mana), and position, before you can attack your opponents. Different weapons will have different ranges and areas they cover (although you can always ram into your opponents, if you have movement cards), and everything comes together to create tense fights along the road. Difficulty is a bit uneven (and can be unforgiving when you are new to the game), but with some practice, you'll learn how to navigate around the enemies and get your opportunity to strike, possibly draining their mana with your attacks just enough that they won't be able to do anything on their turn, while avoiding the same fate. Some weapons the enemies can sport are a bit unfair, but such encounters are very rare. Presentation is good (but not great) across audio and visuals. Overall, I had great fun with it for several hours, recommended!

Similar to Slay The Spire and Fate Hunters, Death Roads: Tournament lets you choose a car and driver and you make your way across the post-apocalyptic wasteland, shooting and bashing other cars. Drivers have 3 unique cards for their deck and cars have 3 as well. The remainder is made up of cards granted by car parts you can mix and match. Some cars come with accessory slots that can provide bonuses to your stats, but not always clog up your deck with another card. You unlock characters (other competitors) by defeating them as you encounter them and new cars by gaining experience from failed and successful runs. RNG weighs heavily on the game but there are driver/car combos that can mitigate that. The last boss is predictably cheesy and the ending is rather lackluster. Overall, I found Death Roads to be enjoyable enough for me to go back and try different drivers.

Good card game

I like the post apocaliptic scenario. The game turns more and more strategic when you advance and unlook new cars and pilots.
