Anyone got spare pants?

I played this quite a bit on 360 and no lie my first playthrough took ages because I found myself too scared to want to continue. Eventually I pulled up my big boy pants and faced the horrors head on. Boy am I glad I did. This was one of if not the scariest game I had ever played at the time and it still holds up today in all aspects, scares, sound design, gameplay, even graphically the game still looks remarkably good for it's age. After several years away I have started a new playthrough of the entire main trilogy and I am thrilled to see this game still holds up and I couldn't be more excited to go through the harrowing journey on new superior hardware and new DLC I never got the chance to play before. It's important to note since I brought it up GOG doesn't currently carry 2 or 3 that I have found at the time of writing. However Steam has you covered in that department and if this game happens to be on sale here and not there or something like that then I would still say go for it. The main point here is this game is one of the best sci fi horror games around and imo you would be loony to pass it up. At least dip your toes in. You may find yourself diving in head first afterward.

A good Horror classic! Still holds up!

Dead Space 1 (2008) Is one of those classic games, that you just can't get enough off. Despite it being over 15 years old. The the tense atmosphere, horro and gore still holds up. To this day. Unfortunately, This game was originally made for consoles. And the pc port, just wasn't that good. So it's stuck in 30 fps. But that can be fixed, if you go to the the ingame options and turn V-Sync off. But also go to Nvidia control panel and turn Vsync on there and also lock the game to 60 fps. Do this and you're good to go!

Great survival horror, but, some issues.

Dead Space is a great survival horror set in space, with the twist that you need to target limbs instead of just the head to effectively kill enemies, it was inspired by Resident Evil 4, and so on and so forth. The GoG version of Dead Space works mostly well on Windows 7 64-bit, although I still needed to apply a third party mouse aiming patch, because the devs did not give 1/10ths of a s*** to make it work well themselves. Even with the third party mouse patch, the non-aiming looking around camera is a bit under sensitive, and for some reason when you're walking on the sticky stuff that slows you down, the camera sensitivity goes NUCLEAR. That makes no damn sense, why does it do this?! Also the game runs at a horribly fixed, low, and sloggy framerate with VSYNC on. With it off, it's buttery smooth, but at a price: More bugs. The dying randomly on a zero gravity land bug still seems to be present, and it's one of the worst. I mean, you guys still can't fix that?! Something tells me it was a weird anti-piracy measure that just happens randomly that the devs programmed in for s***s and giggles, but forgot to properly remove, I dunno, just a hunch. Guess it's just developer incompetence instead. Some massive technical issues aside, great game.

Great game, terrible controls

I really love Dead Space and played it again and again on PS3. When I finally had a decent PC I wanted to play it again but I had to sell it again soon after. Why? Because the controls are terrible for me. Sure you can reconfigure the controls, but cursor keys, Enter and some others are locked and can't be remapped. I can't play using WASD, I always use the cursor keys to move, Enter to interact, R Shift to jump and so on. So not being able to configure the controls to my needs is an absolute No-Go.

No Horror, no Survival, bad controls

Survival Horror without survival and horror and bad controls The look of Dead Space is a very good one and that all HUD-elements are build into the world is a very nice idea. Together with a world that works it could be a very good game. Sadly the controls are just slow with mouse and keyboard. At the end you will have to fight while being shaken. Get yourself a weapon with continous fire as a third one or you will scream in frustration because mouse controls are so slow. Beside that the game is missing any survival aspect. I was only using the standard Plasmacutter weapon just testing out new found weapons and I was playing on medium. Around mid of the game I was starting selling healthpacks and ammo for my main weapon because my inventory and my bank where flooded with that stuff. Just keep the eyes open and their won't be any shortage of anything. And now just think about Resident Evil with enough healing plants to throw them away because you got more then enough. While many people claimed being terrified by the game I have to say, I was not. Shure some jumpscares got me for a short moment, but even while playing the game late at night in a dark room with headphones and a very good sound - nothing. The enemys where never a real danger and as said, I had plenty of ammo and healthpacks. What should I fear with 4 Weapons, plenty of ammo and healthpacks? Being attacked? No.. Playing with eyes and mind open you will be able to read the game after a short time. And then it starts. Walking through the room while knowing where the next enemy will appear and you already target the position shoothing him the moment he appears. Even if you have to walk backwards to activate the trigger. In most situations you will know when and from where they come. And as a last disclaimer. I started to play Resident Evil 1 but never played through it. I played the first Alone in the Darks a few hours but never finished and thats all my experience with Survival Horror.
