10 years after the initial outbreak of the zombie apocalypse, the members of Jack's camp fled to Freedom City, where a cure for the zombie plague was developed. But the news brings more suffering than relief. New factions have sprung up in the region, in constant battle for dominance. The merciless Military, the shady Smugglers and the Independents made up primarily of civilians.

When an Independents' refugee camp was overrun by an undead horde, the few survivors struggle for food and valuable resources in an unforgiving world, always looking over their shoulder for gangs of looters and the flesh-eating dead.



While the big advantage of Dead Age's turn-based combat system versus tactics-based games is faster progression, the mechanics have evolved.

A character can now bring up to 24 skills to the battle. Change up your tactics mid-fight to instantly gain the advantage over zombies and hostile survivors. Place front-row combatants to protect ranged-combat allies from attackers, and deploy turrets, hunting dogs and tigers, as well as an array of new weapons.



Visit the outposts of other factions to trade and take on missions and improve your standing with them. Improving relations with the region's greater factions unlocks better equipment and plot devices. A negative reputation can lead to confrontation or even a bounty.



Your 3D base is your central hub of operations. Here, you assign crafting or building jobs to survivors, build and upgrade stations to improve defense and quality of life and unlock improved craftable items and higher yield of resources.

The new open game-world offers free exploration of the world map with over 80 detailed graphically depicted locations. Beside nature scenes, Dead Age 2 features new indoor locations like hospitals, bunkers, schools, malls and army supply stores.



Decisions you make while playing can have significant effects on the progression of the story involving the three survivor factions, romanceable characters, and bring you closer to one of the game's six endings!



Like its predecessor, Dead Age 2 features random events on the map resulting in a variety of consequences, but this time those events are depicted fully in 3D. Survival RPGs are especially dangerous. 3 difficulty levels and permadeath may result at any time in losing an ally for good. If your main character falls victim to the apocalypse you are forced to begin a new playthrough, for which you can purchase upgrades and advantages unlocked in previous runs.

Gain enough standing with the factions and you may purchase things like upgraded faction equipment for newly-created characters, as well as unlock unique endings. This gives Dead Age 2 high replayability!

Significantly better than Dead age 1

As a player of Dead Age, who played through the Survival RPG, I also want to play the sequel directly on day 1. Even though it is still a developer version, it runs very stable. So far I haven't had any problems. The graphics and also the sound has definitely improved. There are a lot of nice music tracks. In general the game has got a lot of new features. Not like the Ubi Soft formula, but a lot of gameplay improvements. Starting with the 3D Base, which reminds of War of Mine, the World Map, which works completely different and quite interesting. There is now a much more interesting Combat system similar to Darkest Dungeon, but fairer RNG. There is a much better Gui, but ok the one from Dead age 1 was also quite outdated... Factions you can quickly forge with, but also trade with and a lot of new quests that have to do with these 3 factions. Also quite cool the different consequences. I even had to decide to betray someone once, because otherwise I would have problems. Unfortunately I died during a nasty wave fight and had to start all over again. It was possible to invest the upgrades in better attributes and more items in the start. Then the game started with a completely different quest in the beginning and the old main character Jack was an henchman, cool stuff. I'm surprised at the overall quality Dead Age 2 has made comparing with the first one. It's still an Indie RPG, so no render scenes or voice-overs, but really good gameplay and oldschool animated nice looking portraits. What could be done better? More events would be good, some events repeat a bit often , but overall a step forward.

Enjoyable Mix

Game isn't perfect, but it definitely harkens back to the PS2 era when all different kinds of games existed regardless of budget. Visual style is fine, with cool comic art for the UI to make up for the okay character models. Combat is entirely turn based with tactical positioning being important that reminded me of South Park: Fractured But Whole which is cool. The base management is fun, as well and I enjoy the lethality and permadeath that really makes you think through how you go about your day to day. Not going to win a GOTY, but a game doesn't have to in order to be good. Cool game, devs.

Great Game, a fitting successor to DA I

The game vastly expands the possibilities of Dead Age I and - what is most important - all the additions (movement on a map with resources, base improvements etc) are meaningful and worthy enhancements of the original gameplay. This is how a sequel should be done! I played to the point where the prerelease version ends and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There is but one point I am not so happy with: Personally, I do not like the "permadeath" concept. I understand that it takes out the spice of a game when you can simply reload after you failed, but having to start all over leads to just that grinding the game neatly avoids in general. I would suggest offering sparse saving points after crucial sections of the plot, roughly every 3-5 Days. That would keep the thrill while avoiding the frustration of having to start all over at day 30. Just my view, though. Overall, I an only recommend this game. Get it! Now!

would be better without unnecessary 3D

I played this game back when it was playable for free in a browser years ago. Discovering that it had been turned into a "real" game with a sequel I jumped in. The game is still good and has kept part of its look but the addition of 3D element have ruined the gaming experience for me. The game is sluggish on my old desktop with integrated graphics while other games with much better 3D graphics do not. Unnecessary animations are in virtually every step of the way. Each location is a glorified menu with buttons to click but the character has to move from one button before the click registers which feels like eternity after a while. The combat screens borrowed this annoying trait from final fantasy 7 where due to animations every combat lags and takes forever making playing the game painful, particularly true and inappropriate for dead age where the player will lose a lot and will have to start again improving each subsequent run with medals. The 3D graphics and animations are not that great, in my opinion they add little to the game but turn playing the game into a mild annoyance and cause a significant waste of time. While usable the interface has flaws and could have been better thought out. expose the actions to the player upfront. for example when you get back to base the game auto removes the party members, if you go on the map it will display a warning asking if you want to go by yourself, forcing to go back to base, navigate the menu to add members before returning to the map. why offer to do it from the map screen? On a similar note when you want to improve or equip your characters you have to get out of the screen to go to another screen to check which characters has which trait. same for doing jobs at the base. A number of game mechanics are affected by similar flaws, which prevent me from getting immersed in the game story. It could have been a good game if the budget had been spent on improving the gameplay and interface instead of adding 3D

Good fun, great price. Great value.

Snagged on sale, defintely worth it. I'm enjoying the story. Many references to DA1 but I played it long enough ago that I forget most of the specifics. It's an indy game, so it doesn't have as much polish as you might get with a bigger studio but it is very easy for me to overlook that if I'm having a good time, which I am! There's some min-maxxing too, which always feed my game-related OCD. Hope you enjoy, the devs deserve some reward for their work. I hope to see more!
