Opis
Originally released by LucasArts in 1993 as a sequel to Ron Gilbert’s ground breaking Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle is a mind-bending, time travel, cartoon puzzle adventure game in which three unlikely friends work together to prevent an evil mutated purple tentacle from taking over the world!

Now, over twenty years later, Day of the Tentacle is back in a remastered edition that features all new hand-drawn, high resolution artwork, with remastered audio, music and sound effects (which the original 90s marketing blurb described as ‘zany!’)

Players are able to switch back and forth between classic and remastered modes, and mix and match audio, graphics and user interface to their heart's desire. We’ve also included a concept art browser, and recorded a commentary track with the game’s original creators Tim Schafer, Dave Grossman, Larry Ahern, Peter Chan, Peter McConnell and Clint Bajakian.

Day of the Tentacle was Tim Schafer’s first game as co-project lead, and a much beloved cult classic! This special edition has been lovingly restored and remade with the care and attention that can only come from involving the game's original creators.
  • 100% new hand painted, high resolution artwork
  • Switch on the fly between classic mode and remastered mode
  • Remastered high quality voices, sound effects and music, with emulated “iMuse” style dynamic music
  • Choose between two remastered music modes: modernized, re-voiced music, or classic music which sounds just like it did in the 90s
  • Concept Art Browser
  • Highly customizable user interface and experience, with mix and match options for old and new play styles - play with the verb bar in remastered mode, or the new verb dial in classic mode
  • Commentary track with original creators: Tim Schafer, Dave Grossman, Larry Ahern, Peter Chan, Peter McConnell and Clint Bajakian.
  • Game within a game: Includes full playable version of Maniac Mansion!

Amazing! Those timing issues though...

DOTT was one of the first games I had on my brand-new Desktop Computer in the late 90s. It is non-arguably a masterpiece of Lucas Arts' corky Point and Click adventures of the time and Double Fine did a great job remastering it with the original concept art. What turned out as kind of a buzzkill was the fact that after a few hours of my playthrough, the subtitles had trouble catching up with the voice acting, killing the timing of countless jokes and making several scenes extremely tedious. Using the skipping function to solve the issue manually sometimes resulted in skipping the upcoming line, resulting in inexplicable jumps in dialogue, or didn't work at all. If these issues are fixed with another patch, there is no way this remaster doesn't deverve 5 stars, for now it's gonna have to be 4!

Brilliant, in Every Sense of the Word!

First and foremost, the people that rated this game 1 star because it was put up for sale late deserve nothing less than banishment from ever writing a review ever again. People are entitled to thier own subjective opionions, but reviews that have absolutely nothing to do with the actual game deserve to be flushed into oblivion, after all, thats what you do with turds, flush them down the toilet. Anyways, enough about people who have ZERO understanding of game reviews. This review should be about DotT and thankfully, this is one of the easiest game reviews I have ever written. As the title of my review stated, its absolutely brilliant, in every sense of the word. For those familiar with DotT, you will not be disappointed. The graphics, voices, sound effects and music have all been beautifully remastered and one of the best aspects is you can switch between the remastered version or the original version with every aspect of the game, or just some of them. You can mix and match as you see fit. If you want original graphics, but updated voices and music, you can have it. If you want remastered graphics but classic voices and music, you can have that too. Again, you can mix and match as you see fit. DotT was one of the pinnacles of the classis adventure game period and is highly loved by just about everyone that has ever played it, and for very good reason. It has a fantastic story that is highly amusing, fun and logical puzzles that are not too challenging, and extremely likable and memorable characters that will make switching between the various characters extremely enjoyable. Adventure game simply don't get any better than this. For those that are not familiar with DotT, this is a perfect opprotunity to play one of the best PC games of all time and this is one of the best aspects to remastered games, the fact that they introduce games to a whole new generation of gamers. If you enjoy advenure games, this should be your very next game purchase! 5 Stars!

Perfect example of a remaster

This is my first GOG review despite having used the site for years. Why now? Because this is probably the most perfect example of a remaster that I have had the pleasure of playing - the fact that this has been done to a great game is even better. At its most basic level, this is not a remaster, it's a faithful transfer of the original game to a modern OS without needing a SCUMM VM frontend. At the middle (and most obvious) level, this is a remaster of the original game. Music is improved, graphics are updated to vector style, and there is the option (note: option!) to use a more intuitive icon-based set of interaction comments. Finally, as a top level, and without interfering with the core game at any point, there has been an acknowledgement of the fact that with modern games people often hanker for extras - so there's a developer's commentary thrown in too. This isn't a remake, it's a remaster, and the guys and gals at Double Fine Productions should be proud. I hope you read this guys.

Even better than the fantastic original

I played this with my brother when I was a teenager. I was immediately taken in by the graphics and fun story line. It became one of my favorite adventure games. I later bought a cd copy at a thrift store and played it together with my young son - we enjoyed playing it together and the added voices on the cd version made it all the better. Now many years later we were super excited at the announcement of this remastered version. And although we finished the game quickly (kinds helps a little when you've played through the game several times) we thoroughly enjoyed it. Fun to flip back and forth between old and new graphics, and the audio update was very well done. Whether you've played this before or not this is definitely one to buy. A true classic brought back to life.

It's good.. but could be better

I'm very familiar with DOTT as I've already got it on my retro PC, using a real Roland MT-32. For someone coming to this fresh, you'll enjoy the game - the puzzles, humour and style remain the same, For everyone familiar with the original, how does the revised version compare? Sadly, it's uneven. There is a general improvement of detail and some reasonable animation, but it's inconsistent. The original game has smoother animation. The sound effects have been poorly upgraded, choosing realism over the more cartoonish sounds ideal for the game, and no - you can't revert to the original sound effects. The 'original' art in the remake actually looks worse than running the original DOTT files with a scaler (no smoothing) in SCUMMVM. The revised music is poorly composed too, but in general better than running the original through a Soundblaster. Additionally there are noticeable pauses in the action at times.
