In its prime, one hell of a game...

....But it didn't last the test of time, unfortunately. Don't get me wrong: the gameplay is pretty interesting, the presentation is charming and graphics pretty crispy... but without the focus on a single-player campaign, few maps, slow pacing (and this with disabling the animation option) and, to be frank, not that many character options... welp, it does become quite boring, quite fast. BUT! if you like playing fantasy skirmishes and games that do like to mix up gameplay mechanics (strategic and action ones) and manage to do it reasonably good, I'd give it a chance.

Dark Legions

This is the definitiion of a Good Old Game. Strategy, action, innovative gameplay - Dark Legions is fantastic. The only thing it suffers from is being old. If we could figure out online play, and some customization this game would compete with some of my favorties of all time. If there are any modders out there listening, Dark Legions is where its at.

Unwieldy Archon

This game was an attempt to add a ton of depth and features to the classic game Archon with a D&D setting. While graphics and animation were nice for the time, all they really ended up doing was making Archon (a tight, simple boardgame) more of a slog. Everything new from the Archon formula usually ends up making the experience more drawn out and tedious. Most of the units (and ESPECIALLY the AI) are fatally prone to cheese that renders most options pointless. Archon has had half a dozen versions at this point. Go play any of those instead.

way too tedious

played it as a kid, found it an absolute slog now. looks great, nice animations, ok audio, but zero quality of life or settings. can't change controls, no volume sliders or animation speed/skip (though that's probably doable in dosbox), can't make scenery transparent, etc. good old archon on the c64 (and elsewhere) is more basic but also more enjoyable without wasting a lot of time watching unnecessary fluff to play out after every. single. move.
