Loki, known from the Nordic sagas as a versatile god of lies and weaver of many intrigues against his divine "colleagues", has been banned from Asgard by Odin as a punishment for the trouble caused by the Midgard serpent. Now Loki is plotting revenge and searching for a possibility to sneak back into Asgard and pay Odin back. Out of spite, he abuses our four human heroes--Sigurd, the Frank, Hatschi, the brave Saracen, Bjami, and Crya--with his intrigues and traps. Embark on adventures and quests to help your allies wrest free from Loki's insidious machinations, whether it's a plague of serpents or the demon wolf Fenris dropping by for a rather unexpected visit. I already purchased these from a different website unfortunately but this would be an instant buy. If you adjust the resolution you will see that the game has aged very well, the cartoonish graphics are still very nice to look at, the music is relaxing and the mix of deep gameplay and the cast of character that doesnt take itself seriously makes this a a perfect stress-free management game. I haven`t played the hardest difficulty but so from what I tried, don`t play this game for the management challenge, more for the fun of watching your community grow. Definite buy.
The game is a combination of the sims and settlers.
This game may make you feel like Papa smurf because your villagers always complain like smurfs and its up to you to babysit them,

Gameplay:
POSITIVES
the game has a lot of micromanagement.
22 Building to buil 9 of them are upgradable.
lots of different resources to gather.
Villagers gain experience, learn new professions and unlock new buildings.
Villagers need to sleep, eat, entertainment and pray similar to "The sims".
IP Online Multiplayer, single missions and single player campaign.
Both economic and war missions.
NEGATIVES
Repetitive building routine.
Heroes are lame because if they die its game over, its better if they dont fight and just stand in place.
To much babysitting.
Large armies are hard to control because some soldier stop to sleep/eat and dont follow.
Ships can carry max 11 units also you need to feel your ships with food so your sailors wont starve.
Hungry vikings can't get aboard the ship.
You can play only as Vikings.
Graphics:
The graphics are cute and cartoonish with different terrains, Animals,Tress, Races and buildings your villagers looks alive talking to each other sleeping, eating and working also the animation is not bad.
Sound:
The sound effects are not bad but the problem is in the music you see in cultures 1 and 2 you get a bonus cd with beautiful soundtracks but not in northland and 8th wonder, the only music you will get is one lame track with random drum hits.
I give it 4/5 only because the music SUCKS!
I first played Northland back in '04 or '05. I was instantly hooked, I love it! No other game that I've played quite compares with it. It feels a bit like a blend between the Settlers and the Sims, you'll see what I mean if you play it.
The graphics have aged very well. In the Cultures games every character (with the exception of heroes) has the potential to get married and have children, which is the only way to in increase your population. They all level up individually to take on new jobs.
I've always been looking for a modern take on this but have never found it.
My absolute favorite! Better that Anno or Settlers or any other games of this genre. Interesting gameplay with heroes and nice story lines, lovely humour etc. All in all, I enjoyed it many many hours
This review is just for Northland, but from what I've read it would probably apply to 8th Wonder of the World as well.
I wanted to like this game. The idea of building up a little economy, with maybe some combat on the side, seemed really appealing. Unfortunately, it turns out that the core of this game is getting resources from point A to point B, with as much fiddly micro-managing as possible. Built a new building (let's say, a pottery) that's not within a stone's throw of your Headquarters? Ok, build a warehouse nearby to store extra raw materials and processed goods. Now, assign someone as a Carrier to the pottery so that they'll bring in clay and take out those bricks. Oh, what's that, the clay is outside the small "working area" radius of the carrier? But look, the potter (who should be busy making bricks) seems to have no trouble trekking across the map to get his clay. Why does the primary worker have no trouble going as far as necessary to get needed resources, while the carrier, whose entire job is to find and bring in needed resources, limit himself to a 10-foot circle around the building? Ok, fine, change the working zone of the carrier. What's that, he's lost? Ugh, ok, get a Scout to build some signposts. Oh, what's that, the warehouse is full. Ok, let's shuffle that stuff off to the central Headquarters. That means we need a Merchant, and a handcart, and we set him to move stuff between the Warehouse and the Headquarters. The manual says he'll intelligently figure out what's needed at each location, and balance the goods. *check back 10 minute later*. Merchant, why are you bringing flour, water, wooden tools, furniture and honey to the pottery warehouse? Ok, the wooden tools are nice, but the rest... Why? Fine, let's go through the giant list of items and click on the arrows for just the specific items I want going in both directions, and change them from grey to a barely different grey-blue...
