What if David Lynch made the Matrix?

Overall, Control shines most brightly when it capitalizes on using its visuals and gameplay to create this "David Lynch meets Matrix" experience. If that sounds interesting to you, then you'll be in for a good time. The core controls are pretty much in-line with what you expect from a 3rd person shooter. The movement can be floaty / off at times, but the enemy AI is usually pretty lenient so that it doesn't matter. Standing still is definitely not recommended. This isn't a cover based shooter. Visually gorgeous, the game features a variety of enemies and environments. The boss fights are on the disappointing end of the scale, but the mini-bosses tend to be a good combination of main enemy and trash mob spawn. A lot of ability functionality is locked behind keystone progression tree perks and come too late in the game. Something like energy regenerating while you hold an object or being able to launch multiple objects at once all should come much earlier than they do. The loot/gear acquisition/progression is also one big RNG grindfest. Think of the worst lootboxes out there, and that's what the core progression pretty much boils down to. The silver lining here is that there isn't any monetization of the RNG. Overall, the progression doesn't seem thought through. But it's nothing that a bit of manual course correction either via save-file editing or CheatEngine won't fix. The DLC content is alright. The maps reuse some existing structures from the base game, but nothing terribly major. The collectibles and writing are all pretty good, and the voice acting is solid from everyone. The Alan Wake DLC is "only" ok if you, like me, haven't played any Alan Wake games before, since I'm sure all the clever tie-ins would greatly enhance the experience. The Foundation DLC seems short and underdeveloped compared to the base game, but still worth playing through at least once. Overall, I'm glad to have played it. Maybe wait for a sale to get it though.

Great game, super combat

I usually dont play 3rd person shooters but this one is a expetion to the book, and a good one non the less. great gameplay in general the performance is not the greates, but it is understadable as everything is destrutible. 150% recomended

Loved it

I absolutely loved the game. After starting a lot of games in the last 6 months and never finishing any, this is the first that I actually finished. I loved the story the most. I liked discovering all kinds of hints like notes and recordings in the game, to understand the back story. I love the theme of the game secondly. I enjoyed the gameplay a lot. I liked the music.

Save system doesn't work very well

Major tip ahead for anyone that's stuck because of a game progression bug! So far I'm enjoying Control. The first time I started the game up I noticed this learning curve and I wasn't always sure what to do or how to upgrade my character properly so I ended up being pretty underpowered and decided to start a new game. Why this game doesn't allow multiple savegames is beyond me for a game that came out so recently. Anyway, in the beginning the new game worked like it should, but as I progressed I noticed control points which where already claimed and upgrade boxes were already opened and missions I completed just wouldn't check off the list so I couldn't progress the game from beyond 45 minutes in. This made me start a new game yet again and the same thing happened again so I figured a fresh install might sort things out but it didn't. We're now a couple of days further and I'm getting reluctant to start a new game yet AGAIN, having to go through all the same boring hoops and story that's getting old by now but I did anyway. I think you can already see where this went? Right, the same friggin' problem. Googling my problem lead me nowhere so I started poking around my system to see where Control saves are stored because I found out saves are persistent on your system, even with cloud-save turned off and reinstalling the game from seemingly scratch. Here is where I solved the issue. !!!---!!! The solution: Turn off cloud saves and then navigate to your documents folder (for me I'ts c:\D:\Home\Documents\My games\Control\Saves\ and delete everything in there. You WILL lose all your progress but it's the only way to get a new game to work. !!!---!!! How this got through QC is beyond me. End-users shouldn't have to jump through these hoops and try to jury-rig their game for a solution that seems so extremely simple to solve for a developer. The game is fun, but the quality is lacking in some pretty basic stuff.

The promotionals didn't do it justice!

The only reason I didn't pick this game up when it was first released is because Remedy's ads, trailers, and general promotion of the game didn't do much for it except to convince me that the game was just another gimmicky first-person shooter very light on a story with little if any content detail while waxing very heavy on the bang-bang shoot'em-up (dumb) aspect of all high-rated shooters today. Anyway, the game is A++++ for me, just a great game of the kind we unfortunately don't see as often as any of us would like Most shooters today are of the "Go from A to B, being careful to blow up and destroy everything in between as you go. Rinse and repeat from B to C, C to D, D to E, and so on until everything is dead--and then the cannibals come and throw you in the pot with the Baptist missionaries they are having for a late-night snack! (J/K!)...;) You won't see anything like that in this game, fortunately! Something that popped out from the first minutes into the game--I love the options spread and layout--it's super and well organized to a near-perfect 'T'. The design is top-notch, first-rate, designed by persons who obviously know exactly what they are doing--it's nearly ideal in its logic and in the fabulous efficacy the options all seem to have, starting with the graphics option. Just the way the options are presented does so much for explaining them in the context of each other as to what they do--settings close by--and if an option doesn't logically flow like that Remedy includes some text to better explain the function. I bought the PC version, obviously--AMD 3900X/AMD 50th Ann Ed 5700XT/ x570 Aorus Master/ 4X8GB 3733MHz system ram, Win10 v2004, b21390.2025. I play the D3d12 version of the game at 4k and the game runs extremely well with max graphics options on. Highly recommended!
