Constructor Classic 1997

I remember having this game many moons ago on my PS1. As RTS games go this one has possibly the steepest learning curve I have ever experienced. It's mirco management on a hellish scale. However it's tongue in cheek approach and genuine comedic moments will allow you to overlook these issues and appreciate what a true gem this game is. It's the free market on crack mixed with aspects of SimCity and Command & Conquer.

The speed of this game is so fast that you can really only play it in sandbox mode. The controls are also redundant and a little clunky.

I'm sure this game was much fun back in the day....but for those of you who hadn't played it like me....I don't recommend it. I found it clumsy and difficult to play....not its fault...just dated. As with all old games, if you played it before then all that is ok.

Read the manual (or online FAQ's, it's just too hard otherwise) Cheats work, just make sure you type them in and PRESS ENTER ... BEFORE you start the game. so press PLAY GAME, in the setup screen type your code, press enter, you hear a chime. THEN- and here's the important part. Once you start the game you MUST press the letter 'C' just a lower case c will do. A plus sign (+) will appear next to the date, then you're all good to go. Can turn off angry tenants and get unlimited money for eg. Oh and last piece of advice: Get one repair man per block, will save your life!

A very fun City Builder/RTS hybrid with a fairly steep learning curve. The visuals hold up fairly well to this day other than the cutscenes you'll almost never see. Once the basics of the game are learned it is very easy to lose sense of time while building up your city, keeping your tenants happy and doing nasty things to other neighborhoods competing against you. There's quite a bit to manage and have fun with. The game is by no means perfect - the view is fixed, there are tons of little rules the game places without informing the player until AFTER they've broken them that will end to a game over if the player doesn't abide by within a certain amount of time (i.e. 1 house per block, 90% of purchased land must be used, etc.). Unlocking new resources and figuring out what each building actually does is also not really explained, so new players will definitely struggle to pick up the details.
