Opis
CLARC is an isometric, grid-based puzzle game with fast-paced arcade elements. It features comic style visuals in various different graphical themes, from the inside of a chaotic factory to the surface of Mars to the interior of an intruding enemy spaceship where you think, run, and fight through heaps and heaps of carefully designed puzzle and action areas.

Our hero, Clarc #37, is a simple, hard-working maintenance robot, living in a decaying nuclear missile factory. Ever since the old supercomputer has disappeared, the rest of the facility has fallen into utter chaos. The discovery that diesel has thrilling effects on robotic circuits lead to a fierce shift in priorities: Every robot has since been focusing on drinking instead of working. Everyone except Clarc. So when a less-than-peaceful spaceship enters the stage to disarm and dismantle this out-of-control doomsday device of a partying factory, Clarc is the one to save the day. He has to overcome his programming to rescue his fellow robots and, of course, his newfound friend, the lovely atomic bomb, Clara.

Sokoban meets Borderlands

My very first impression of this game was that it was a spin-off from Borderlands. Similar how Tombraider, had "Lara Craft, and the temple of light", and Duke Nukem had "Manhattan Project". The graphics are similarly "cartoonish" style. I personally love this kind of "brain" puzzle. I first encountered it in "Dr Brain's Castle" or something similar, where you had to program a robot to navigate a maze. In this particular instance, you control the robot. You are able to lift things (mostly blocks, but also other little robots.) and then use them to solve puzzles, by blocking lasers, activating switches etc. Similar to Sokoban, where you had to push blocks onto specific spots to complete the puzzle. In the same trend, you sometimes end up blocking yourself, but unlike Sokoban, you can "pull", "push" and turn blocks. It adds the element of "laser and mirrors" as well. I have not yet gone far, as it is too early in the morning, and I have not been to bed, but I am definitely hooked. I can see why some players would label this game repetitive, as even in early stages, some things are like take block, stop laser, take next block, stop laser and so on. For me personally however, I enjoy these games, as I don't perpetually play them, only when I need to occupy my mind, so getting back to the game is mostly fresh again, and I don't get bored. I think the game is slick, and well rounded. Graphics are, as I said earlier, "cartoonish", reminiscent of Borderlands. Cannot say much of music, as I focus so much on gameplay, that music fades into the background. My vote is in for this game, and if you like puzzles, this is the one toget.

Wall-E + Sokoban: Action Edition

With its charming visual, CLARC is an excellent brain teaser, if you like Sokoban. Here you can push, pull and turn boxes around, and the chance you get totally stuck is non-existent. There's about 60-40% divide between pure puzzles (like take box A, B and C to their places, or direct lasers to mirrors) and action-puzzles (snatch boxes from moving laser fences, evade robots, etc.). The game has a really forgiving saving method, so failing a puzzle won't throw you back to the levels' beginning. Beside box pulling, later the levels introduce new dangers and solutions, like reflective boxes, empty boxes, fixed and moving lasers, armed robots, etc. The problem is that new elements appear very scarcely. Sometimes the design is genuine and genius, like the robo-racing, or the portable beam projector. More often than not however, they repeat the same old trick over and over again. I also miss boss fights - a huge, missed opportunity IMO. Sound can also be annoying, I often turned it down completely. A zooming feature would also have been nice, especially where you have to dodge multiple laser beams at once. Action parts can also be frustrating for people who expect a pure logic game - sometimes you have to make pinpoint side-steps and turns, lest you get vaporized by enemy robot tanks or laser beams. Also, the story starts as a cute one, but it will unlikely to provide everyone with enough drive to try a failed puzzle for the 30th time. Despite the above mentioned issues I spent more than 20 with this game so far, hell bent on saving Clara. If you don't mind action in a logic-platforming game, give a shot for CLARC.

A good game to exercise the brain

The mazes are not too difficult, some of them requite a bit of timing and a pattern to figure out. I enjoyed the game. Screen graphics are pleasing to the eye and are very detailed. Once you have been zapped game play starts again right away. I like the fact there is no countdown timers to complete mazes.

It's a bit dark...

I mean, I'd say it's about PG-13 rated, drunk or high partying robots. It's not terrible, I just didn't realize they were in there until I finally tried the game with my kids. The game does work with keyboard, but we've had to restart it a few times to get the keyboard controls to come up. It seems to decide what controls it will use when you start it and stays with that.

One crippling omisson

The game's controls can be very finnicky. If the game had a "rewind" button, I'd likely give it 3 stars. Unfortunately, it does not. So if the controls fail to respond, an you're killed, you get pushed back to the last checkpoint, which can be quite a bit behind you on some levels.
