Good, but Janky

I enjoyed this game, but it did have some shortcomings: There is a strange stutterung issue that happens which somewhat spoils the otherwise good graphics: https://steamcommunity.com/app/330020/discussions/0/2292842508227179463/ The combat is mostly fun, but there are some headscratchers. I don't want to get into details, but there where some moments where I thought "Really?, that's how the game goes?". Like going through the early levels with the archer being just a little too mindless or having to wait for your abilities to recharge, because there are just a few too many enemies on the screen. The combat was also a little sluggish for my taste, which I think had mostly to do with the dodge, which didn't feel 100% responsive. There's probably someone out there who will tell me "oh, you just weren't doing it right!", but I often found myself in the situation that I was sure i hit dodge in time for an enemy attack, only to find myself being hit anyway. As for the story: It's charming, if you're into that kind of thing but for me it's not compelling enough to carry the game on its own. Anyway, I still think the game is fun, but considering how competitive this genre is nowadays, I'd tell myself "wait until it drops in price or the stuttering is fixed" if i could make the purchase decision again.

Cool take on pixelart diablo :)

First I would like to thank the developers/publishers on putting this game on GOG at the same time as on Steam. Several games (including Void Bastards) came first on Steam, where I bought them, and then only later on GOG (didn't buy their duplicates yet). I was very glad to see this game immediately available here, so natually I bought it here at full price instead of purchasing keys at various stores or Steam (on which is 95% of my game portfolio). After aknowledging this feat, onwards to review. The game is very nice narrative roguelike pixelart diablo. So far I am managing to play with keyboard + mouse, but soon I might try the suggested controllers. The sessions are nice and paced for short burts of gameplay, though I had some issues with game save during some sessions (or better to say, interrupted sessions). The progress is nice, skill is valued and mistakes are punished sometimes too severely. Unfortunately, as in every roguelite game, RNG and health regen can be collosal issue to the gameplay and enjoyment, but that is the price of these games which one must accept. Though I would like to see new game mods where these could be avoided or mitigated. All in all, great game, played for several hours, and grinding is so far not so exhausting, narrative keeps it still fresh. Will update review after (hopefully) finishing the game. Cheers!

My favorite game of 2019

Within a few minutes, I knew I needed to buy the game to support the developers. Within a few hours it became my new favorite game of 2019. Just the fact that I was willing to purchase the game says a lot as I pretty much never buy any games. However, this was simply too good not to support the developers. I'm extremely happy with everything and glad I made the purchase. Patches were released soon after I bought it that covered any issues I had. Some claim it's too short, I disagree. I have average skills and have been playing for 2 weeks everyday for at least 1 hour and still haven't beat the game. I suppose if you read guides/cheat you could do it faster, but why? The art is excellent, the sounds are satisfying and fun, the gameplay is insanely fun. AND it's not insanely hard like Wizard of Legend was. You can pick how difficult you want the game to be by picking a harder to play character. The story is my favortie part aside from the art. Most games today skimp on the story, not these guys! A sincere thank you for the hours and hours of fun! Looking forward to going through the whole game over again after I beat it with my girlfriend in co-op :)

ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE!!!

This is the game I didnt know that I have been waiting and hoping for. This is the kind of game that you can completely lose yourself, time becomes totally nonexistent. That hasnt happened to me since I was maybe 15 playing Final Fantasy 7, ( 24 years ago) Not that this game is anything like FF7. But what caught my eye was the beautiful look of the game. The gameplay is super fun, and has such tight controls. What keeps this fun is how you get to play different characters each with their own unique skill tree and abilities and weapons. The story is really getting to me also, it makes you actually start to feel for these characters and the family. Has great visuals, sound atmosphere and just all around a spectacular game. I really applaud the developers on this one. You can tell this is made with love and they really put alot of thought and passion into creating this game. Highly recommend picking this one up!

+ beautiful art + pretty cool music + awesome storytelling with voice and cut scenes - unfortunately the game is programed to lock you in the animations so do expect some frustrations in fights..
