Fantastic
Man, SO much nostalgia in this game. Feels like playing a jrpg as a kid again. Amazing story, good gameplay, and great characters. Music is also great. Everything is just so well put together, you can feel the effort the developers put into it. Amazing game, highly recommended as either an intro to jrpg style games or for someone who has played many of them as a fantastic game.

Looks really promising
I haven't beaten this yet. But I really like it so far. The look and gameplay feels a bit like Chrono Trigger w/ a dash of FF6. It has tall sprites and no random battles like Trigger. But the story and tone is all its own. The battle system is very cool with some unique mechanics. So far the writing has been good and there seem to be a bunch of interesting characters in your party. I have run into some bugs that I hope will be fixed. But if you like 16-bit JRPGs don't hesitate to play it.

MASTERPIECE
I normaly do not review games. Yet here I am writing a review about it. I do not think there is anything else for me to add that hasn't been said. This game is trully well made. It is a true example of passion, craftmanship and a love letter to the RPGs of old. Thank you to the developer of this modern classic. Chained Echoes is a gaming trasure in a sea of garbage. This is how games used to be made. Games were made by gamers for gamers. Pleasse buy it, play it, enjoy it, for there may not be another like it in a very long time. Money well spent, I promese

MASTERPIECE
In 2 words: Absolutely Phenomenal. One of the best Jrpg's and overall games I've ever played. It has almost everything, the only things it's missing is better graphics (I don't mind the pixel graphics, but nowadays we have elitists left and right) and voice acting (same as before...people think that if you have to read that's somehow inferior to VA, which is moronic). But yeah, other then that there is really not much to say...the game is as near perfect as possible. It has great music, artstyle, sound and story...but the cherry on the cake is the combat system. My god, it's SOOOO good. Especially since the game doesn't use the outdated lvlup system, but instead rewards you when you do something notable, like beating a boss/miniboss. It's also has a massive number of characters and skills at your disposal, all of them interesting and fun But maybe above all else...it's just a fantastic ADVENTURE...that makes you feel like a kid again...poking at that inner-explorer all gamers have, where you just wanna explore one more dungeon/quest. As you can see it took me over 83 hours to beat the game and I still have the hidden boss left to fight (which will take quite a few more). If you like games, buy this, it's incredible. If you like (j)Rpg's ...well you're probably already playing...haha. I hear this game was 7 years in the making, by a very small team...and it shows. The amount of love in it is astounding and it's truly something to be celebrated. Hope to see more one day. Well done!

A great game
I'm quite cheap when it comes to games: I never buy them full price, I always wait for a discount. My backlog of game to play is so big I need multiple lives to complete it anyway. Chained Echoes is the exception. I'm a big fan of SNES-era JRPG, and the trailer alone convinced me enough to buy it full price. It was mainly done by one person in 8 years, which is crazy to me, so I wanted to support that. I discovered it two weeks ago from a Youtube comment (didn't know it was possible to discover something that way :D), and I finished it yesterday. The story is really good, and the writing is clear and straight to the point. It's a bit complicated to follow at time, but the world feels more alive and immersive because you feel that the characters know the world (and don't break the fourth wall by explaining everything to you, The Player). Great 2D pixel-art; some stuffs are less good than others (the portraits are sometimes... expressionless). But overall it's very good. The combats are way better than all the inspirations of the game (Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Terranigma...), even if they are more difficult, and sometimes punishing. My favorite aspect: there are no trash fights. I found all the encounters interesting, which never happened before with a JRPG. There's a lot of gears customization too, which can be clunky at time, but still super interesting. In short: a very solid game, if you enjoy SNES-era JRPG, you'll enjoy this one.
