Wow. What an Update. First time playing this updated "Directors Cut" Since around 2007 or 2008. I was baffled with the intro as it starts off without the bomb in the accordian at the restaurant which is how the vanilla version of Broken Sword starts. Nevertheless, our Polish Compatriots at CD Projeckt and GOG. Sure have done a phenomenal work by tasking themselves to bring this game from Windows 95/98/2000/XP. To Windows 11.
The memories of me playing this as a Kid and Teenager and the low price made me buy it in the future or present day. But the gist of this game was that it was on the level of Simon the Sorceror, Terry Pratchetts games and it was a throwback to Indiana Jones.
I just downloaded both the Director's Cut and the Classic Edition from GOG.com (for free thanks to 6 million downloads, thanks GOG!) While the DC seems to be working fine on my Windows 7, the Classic Edition crashes when I try to save my game. Anyone else found a solution to this problem?
I will rate 4 stars so as not to affect the score much since I've barely played either version.
I love the game, but the additions in the remastered version are silly and unnecessary.
Apart from making the game easier, which can be considered as a positive for some players, they add nothing of value. In my opinion, they only detract from the original.
Please, if you're going to be playing this game for the first time, just use the original version.

I have to give this 'director's cut' version of Broken Sword a low score. I enjoy the original two games (Shadow of the Templar and Smoking mirror). There is little replay value other than for the story and nostalgia. But first time play through is great, for any adventure fan. Get the original from Amazon on CD its dirt cheep and much better than this directors cut.

After playing, Its obvious this version was for Nintendo DS and has been ported to PC, Why doesn't GOG list the original game?
my reasons for low score:
1) Pretty much every card (playable area) in the game had a cinematic or two in the original, all of which are cut from this version. In my opinion the game feels empty without them. These cut scenes would play after the key puzzle in the current area was solved, and now in place is nothing, just a line of dialogue in a couple of instances.
2) The whole graphical user interface has been re-done to the same effect as the crowd funded Broken Sword 5, it's a lot less fitting than the original system. It feels like a mobile or flash game GUI and doesn't fit the game's look and feel at all.
3) During conversations with NPCs we have portrait's in respective corners of the screen. They are terrible and really distract from the hand drawn scene in front of you.
4) The additions too this game are poor. They really stand from the original game design, some of Nico's parts are entertaining but their placement breaks up the story telling and shifts the spotlight from our hero George Stobart.
5) My biggest gripe with this version.
No Death state. In the original certain actions would render George caught and dead, with accompanying cinematic scenes. No deaths in this version!
If your new to broken sword play the original this versions of 1 and 2, they are great. Broken sword 5 is worth a shot too, after playing 1+2, but as for this one, steer well clear,
