Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain

I can remember the days of playing this on the PS1 and dreading the god awful load times of opening the menu because I equipped the wrong thing lol. I remember having a demo of this from a PCWorld magazine disc and was in Awe of how fast it was. After years of waiting and hassling with abandonware, I bought this game and booted right on the first try! Brings back so many memories, if you love Blood omen series, or curious about it, well this is where it all begins...enjoy

saw the games when i was younger, but sadly never had the system to play it. it feels retro, but not a bad retro. it makes you feel over powered in the overworld, and SOME dungeons, but it also give off a dungeon puzzle vibe, so if you try to rush and not think something through, you will be punished. the only complaint i have is when attacking you'll quickly be annoyed by what your character says. a really good Metroidvania.

As a kid I played through all the legacy of Kain series except this one. I remember renting it as a kid and playing it on PS1 and the though the voice acting and script held up, the gameplay was wonky, but worst of all were the loading screens. 5 second or more loading screens everytime you loaded a new area and even when you opened your inventory. Low and behold this pc version fixes the loading screens and now everything loads instantly. I haven't beaten it yet but when I do I'll be glad to have finally officially played the Legacy of Kain series in its entirety after 20 or so years.

Picked up the entire Kain collection in the recent sale, this first one has a lot of charm and personality. Love the pixel graphics, story and voice acting and the gameplay mechanics gradually open up and become quite deep as you acquire new forms, spells and equipment. The combat is a bit wonky, I started out playing this game using the keyboard but feels much better with a controller. Recommended.

The game itself is a pure 5/5, as the plot is just timeless and the hightlight of the game. The exploration is similar to a Link to the Past (albeit in a darker setting). Lastly, the combat is great (albeit broken) and has many spell variety. Still as a product it's a 3/5 because it requires Verok's GL Wrapper (a COMMUNITY developed fix) to function correctly, devs shouldn't put broken games on the shelves and ask the community to fix the games for them.
