Sadly not better than Sudden Strike 2

Honestly, I cannot understand the praises of many people in here. I was searching for a good alternative of Sudden Strike 2 and Blitzkrieg seemed to be the way. At first I was happy. The graphics are nice, the game allows you to receive better units by doing side-missions (I never minded that they repeat themselves) and the game did put a lot effort into historical accuracy, for example into armor and strength of the gun’s caliber. Yet, as other people already mentioned, the game is too much focused on artillery. While in Sudden Strike 2 the supply trucks had to rebuild ammunition themselves on a legendary slow rate, making artillery useless, here you can level everything down and then send your tanks in for the rest. Well, at least if the enemy doesn’t have artillery. While in Sudden Strike 2 you were able to hear the enemy shots, in Blitzkrieg you only receive some orange circles on your map and these suggestions are only very vague, while at the same time the enemy shoots with a huge accuracy. The main missions are bad. While in the side quests you have just a few tanks and soldiers, suddenly you are the commander of a huge army that already gets attacked from all sides, after just a few seconds. And forget your air reconnaissance because as soon as you send them the enemy sends fighters, not to mention his flaks that are all over the map. All you can do is use your tanks and artillery only and pause a lot of time to give commands, otherwise you WILL lose track of what is going on. But the worst part is the infantry. It is completely useless! In Sudden Strike 2 your soldiers had bazookas and anti-tank rifles to be useful against vehicles and they were. In Blitzkrieg they are just pure cannon fodder for tanks, except the sniper who is a perfect scout. You cannot even take out the tank crew and capture the enemy tank, while in Sudden Strike 2 you could. So the infantry has no chance against tanks at all. They are useless, regardless of how you try to use them.

very good tactical game

who said u need amazing 3d graphics to be having good time in game? especially when it comes to tactical games like this one, all you need is faithful representation of guns and machines, piercing armor ability, armor thickness, non re spawning units and you have been immersed in realistic ww2 game what i like the most is details of models (every tank that had machine guns it has it where it should have it if it didn't had it then it wont) every artillery gun has different range according to its real statistics in ww2, while Russian rockets are based on numbers the Germans concentrated on accuracy as i said the troops don't re spawn u have an option to refill units but when all platoons are obliterated then its over so yeah i highly recommend this game and add on if you like the challenge since i think it is significantly more difficult to go thru

Awsome

easy mode is a breeze...but once you move up to normal the game becomes very well balanced and extremely hard. It demands you constantly think out ever move unlike most games that come off as a easy walk through. Highly recommended war game.

Trip down the memory lane

I bought original Blitz with my first paycheck in 2003 (still have original discs and all) and I never had any regrets. Sure, mission variety is kinda low and it might not be prettiest game out there. But big battles are intensive and visuals can be improved - plenty of mods out there

I got this game on Steam last year and managed to dunk nearly 60 hours into it in the span of a month. Visually this game looks like a painting, you can easily pause at any moment where there are troops on screen at it would look amazing. Every nation speaks its own language, the OST is a bit lacking but who cares ? It isn't an RTS, it is classified as an RTT, you put waaay more emphasis on positioning and timing your attacks properly. You have to guard your trucks as well since they are the backbone of your forces. You loose a heavy truck, you loose on logistical support for your guns and armor. You loose a transport truck ? Infantry is screwed. Pro tip: to successfully assault trenches, use 2-3 trucks behind your infantry and set them to refill squads. So while attacking with your infantry, you may preserve the attacking unit and keep on the offensive. The game has 3 major campaigns and an expansion with 2 story driven campaigns. Main ones are the: Allies, you get a mix of Bri'ish, French and American units depending on which of the war you are in. The Soviets and the Germans. No Japan sadly :( And you get to play as Patton and Rommel during the expansion, The GoG version also comes with some bug fixes and a bunch of custom maps "The Iron Division" which were made by the same guys who made the expansion. And it's the reaspn why I have the game twice. Beyond that, don't play Blitzkrieg 2, it's not as good as this one. Codename Panzers is also not up to snuff. This, Sudden Strike and Men of War AS2 and GoH is where it's at.
