Worth it, even now

I think I heard of this game back when it came out but I didn't put effort into acquiring it. Playing it now, it has a unique style that is quite dated graphically but the gameplay mechanics still hold up. The story is nice and only has a moderate amount of grinding and exploring. There were a few times that I went searching for assistance, but the game flowed well otherwise.

An exceptional adventure game

The game is great, it is an old experimental Ubisoft Adventure game. The game stars Jade, the protagonist who was pushed by circumstances in a fight against invaders. She embarks on her adventure with the help of her adoptive uncle Pey'j on board of their hovercraft. The world itself is charming, brimming with character and small charming details. Both the gameplay and story are quite simple, but they are carried by their presentation: cinematography, music, and set pieces. For the gameplay itself, it is varied but if I have a complaint we could have had more. The game itself is short (relatively speaking) and it could be felt as we get closer to the end of the game. On the technical side, the game may need some tweaking to get it to work correctly. All in all, this game is a gem that is worth a try.

Iconic glory from the 2000'

Beyond good & evil is a third person platform-adventure from the early 2000' that always intrigued me with its story and gameplay, and after finally finished it I can say : ''oh boy, it's good!''. Although its genre was typical for its time , the game stands out without effort and sits on the same level with the most iconic console games while giving the player something a little bit different. In fact, the whole gameplay is actually a mix of combat and stealth action, little bit of driving here and there and the ability to photograph alien flora and fauna that manages to keep the player experimenting different things while delivering a seldom kind of story (at least for tis time) with some nice thoughts behind it like preserving the environment. However, this port is not without flaw : if played with a higher framerate will break cutscenes and you need to install external software if you plan to play it with a controller. Beyond the good and evil ( YAY, managed to insert this joke) side of this game : it is still a masterpiece, both for its time and beyond ( ...Yuck) that must be tried at least once in your life.

Very Much a Console Port

It was a good game; Im glad I played it at least once (and Im always happy to see stuff like this on GOG). But I would definitely recommend getting it on a console (this is coming from a PC loyalist). Camera control is terrible with a mouse. I had to stop playing after a few hours because I was literally sick to my stomach as the camera was repeatedly ripped from my control to stare at the floor, the ceiling or to be fixed in the most unhelpful position possible. Since most of the game is sneaking, most of the time the camera will be staring at the main characters bum or a wall (yes, Im a little spoiled from Human Revolution...). I cant tell you how many times I accidentally pushed the wrong button; trying to run or dodge, only to end up snapping a picture of the thing trying to eat me. Yeah, you can reassign controls, but some consolidation of buttons (like dodging and running) wouldve been helpful. Lastly, the graphics are terribly optimized. Even on the lowest settings, in the City I got a maximum of 30fps and an average of maybe 15-20. This is coming from a build with a GeForce 660 GTX; by no means the best card, but can run many new AAA titles on max settings. Seeing it defeated by an old game like this really deflated my balloon. Conclusion: Good game, get it on the GC.

Controls beyond good and evil

I get what people love so much about this game, what makes it an all time classic; the character and art design make sure of that, no question. And for that, I really tried to like the game. But alas, I don't, and it has all to do with the terrible controls and flawed game design. The camera and controls are -- excuse the pun -- beyond good and evil, and I don't think that's an exaggeration.. Espicially boat rides can be ridiculously frustrating. The game map is super not helpful; I spent too much time figuring out where to go and what to do. Also, there is quite some boring filler between story missions.
