Beneath a Steel Sky (1994)

Beneath a Steel Sky to krótka ale bardzo ładnie wykonana gra. Lokacje i wideo prezentują się dobrze i są czytelne. Fabularnie jest już nieco gorzej, bo główny bohater nie jest dobrze nakreślony a jako poszukiwany swobodnie czuje się w rozmowie ze służbami prawa. Ciekawym elementem gry jest towarzyszący naszemu bohaterowi robot Joey którego nie raz wykorzystamy do popchnięcia fabuły dalej. Niestety żeby tę fabułę popychać trzeba przepytac od początku do końca każdego, albo za wczasu wiedzieć co w jakiej kolejności zrobić, bo kilka razy miałem taką sytuację że mimo że teoretycznie wszystko zrobiłem to musiałem zmienić lokację i wrócić do niej powtórnie żeby skrypt załapał. Mimo to przez większość czasu doskonale wiemy co mamy robić. Irytujące jest powolne chodzenie Joey'a bo ten chodzi swoim tempem i przy zmianie lokacji nie pojawia się razem z nami, co akurat też jest niespoptykaną mechaniką w grach tego typu, bo niektóre postacie zwyczajnie przechadzają się po świecie w swoim tempie. Urozmaiceniem rozgrywki jest świat wirtualny w którym musimy rozwiązac kilka łamigłówek aby ostatecznie uzyskać dostęp do wirusa. Gra posiada również kilka bezużytecznych przedmiotów które podnośimy i nie jest w każdym elemencie czytelna, chociaż nie trudno się domyślić ich przeznaczenia. Ostatecznie to jest całkiem dobra gra, która ma swoje problemy. Plusy: + grafika + prostota Minusy: - fabuła - toporność

I remember these point-and-click adventures of old. Growing up, I played Monkey Island, King's Quest and several other games in that vein, and I was never good at them. I always end up wandering aimlessly searching for the way forward and then lose my patience. Honestly, I wouldn't have tried this game if it wasn't for the fact that I stumbled across Beyond a Steel Sky and became intrigued, and decided to play the first game before venturing into the sequel. With that out of the way, Beneath a Steel Sky is a unique game. The world building and dialogue is really quite good, so in order to experience the story, I've been using a walkthrough, because I honestly can't be bothered with the gameplay. It's been worth it, though, and my guess is that if you enjoy this type of game, you'll have a blast navigating Foster through this strange, dystopian universe. In short, the writing is good enough that I'll suffer through the point-and-click tedium just to see where this adventure goes.

Very nice story and gameplay. I enjoyed the puzzles and the atmosphere.

Fantastic world building, voice acting and great story. The puzzles are usually quite simple but overall a fun narrative and definitely worth playing through at least once.

An underrated gem of a game set during the Golden Age of Adventure Gaming. Even compared to modern titles in terms of setting, story, characters, design as well as pacing this still ranks quite high. The gameplay is typical point-and-click puzzle solving but thankfully no "moon-logic" of any sort. This game will be attractive to both verterans and beginners. A must-play for anyone interested in cyberpunk or adventure gaming in general.
