Very good shooter

I'm a huge twin stick shooter fan so there's your bias disclaimer. Either way, this is a very enjoyable twin stick shooter. Graphical presentation is great, very colorful. Decent progression/unlock system. Characters are unique and have different play styles. Negatives would be -- I wish the sound had more nards. Guns and enemies splattering lack some oomph to me. Also, I wish there was more variety to the enemy waves. Either way, great pick up and play game. To use the words of our times, it's one of those "ok just one more run" games.

Awesome Game!!

I love everything about Battle Planet - Judgement Day. The gameplay, premise, and visual aesthetics are all superb. The permanent progression allows unspent upgrade chips to carry over to subsequent runs, while weapons, along with item upgrades can be shared by all characters. Meaning you only have to use your points on those two categories once. This allows you to focus on upgrading character specific traits between runs, or at upgrade posts after missions. The gameplay loop is based on being fair to the player, which makes it hard to stop playing. Battle Planet feels fast, frenetic, and fun!! Controlling each avatar feels unique, and the overall feel of the game is buttery smooth. No complaints here, just a great game. Cheers to the development team.

Below average twin stick shooter

Nothing is broken and if you're desperate for more twin stick action, I daresay this is probably worth looking at. For me though, it was repetitive and lacked the visceral punch of the better games of this type. Upgrades were steady but uninspiring, not doing enough to switch up the gameplay. The shotgun is a 7 shot pick-up to begin with which makes it seem exciting, yet although it makes the enemy health bar fall quicker, it just doesn't FEEL like it packs much punch. Seems small, but in a game all about shooting and dodging, the shooting part is weak.

Fun Arcade-like top-down shooter

Battle Planet: Judgement Day, aside from the Rogue-Lite elements, would be a huge arcade hit circa 1985. You jump in, run around like your hair is on fire for 5-30 minutes, and enjoy the chaos on a 3D planet that greatly differentiates the gameplay from side-scrolling shooters and other rogue-likes. There's no complex story, no puzzles to solve and no long cut scenes. It's just straight unadulterated arcade fun for you and a friend (friend highly recommended) in a way you have likely never experienced before.

My Twin Sticks aren't Twin Sticking

First, I ran into a bug where it would flip out with my controller, and I see zero support for it on the GOG forum, it's crickets in there. Fortunately, it does work with the keyboard, but this is suboptimal, so this may have tainted my experience with it. It's a quick paced, modestly fun shooter played in tiny, bite-size pieces. They describe it as "rogue-lite," and I suppose it is, in the sense that death is inevitable and you can keep some of your points to upgrade and try again, but it doesn't feel "punishing" like I expect a rogue-lite to be. It's just... you go in and shoot a bunch of bugs until they eventually whittle your HP to the point where death is inevitable. It feels more like an old-school arcade game where you try to see how far you can get on a single quarter than it does like a Rogue-lite. Other than that, it's alright. I wouldn't pay the asking price for it. Wait for it to go down at least 30%, more likely 50%. Or pick up a different shooter. There are plenty that stand out. This one feels more like an "also-ran."
