The game is great -works with mod-patch

For those who have issues running the game, this mod will fix it, and you can play the mod changes if you wish. https://www.nexusmods.com/incubationtimeisrunningout/mods/1 Make an account, download for free. I havent tried the mod myself, but it fixed the running issues. I could not make the game run without the mod, but it works like a charm. The game in itself is a great turnbased strategy game. Its the type of game I always loved. Its one of the first games in sci-fy enviroment with a bit of a story. Imagine X-com the new games, and then just turn back time. Would be great to see such games done more, gameplay is just the best!!

A surprising discovery about difficulty

I only played one mission in Battle Isle 2, so I cannot give a comprehensive review. I did read the entire manual though. One drawback I found is the interface feels dated. It is still very usable, just not as convenient as modern games. One surprising feature I found was that difficulty governs the complexity of the game and not (necessarily) arbitrary boosts to AI or enemy strength. On higher difficulties, for example, the flanking mechanic is first introduced, followed by flanking dependency on the weapons of the units doing the flanking. That has got to be the coolest way to change difficulty I have seen in a strategy game. It gives some insight to how the game developers approached the game. I think Battle Isle deserves to be checked out just for that.

Battle Isle 1

The first game is one of the most satisfying single or two player turn based experiences on PC. You are rewarded for making smart tactical decisions on the small scale and implementing a long term strategy across the entire battle. Simple, elegant yet endless tactical variations, closest thing to chess since chess.

Doesn't work properly on Win10

Unfortunately this great legacy title does not work on Win10. There is a workaround but it requires some shenaningans and greatly decreases stability.

Incubation Mission Pack! Finally!

I almost can't believe that this is finally up on GOG. I never really played any of the earlier Battle Isle games, but Incubation was one of the games that got me into PC gaming. Great, great game, although I do remember the expansion just being insanely difficult (although we were trying to get through without losing any squad members, which may be why we had to reload so often...) Ah, the memories :)
