New journey, old friends. I don’t know what possessed Beamdog to make Siege of Dragonspear an expansion to the original game, nor do I know what devil’s pact coerced them into making it thirty-odd hours long. It’s insanity.

Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear fills in some of what happens to the Child of Bhaal between saving Baldur’s Gate and saving your soul from Irenicus, and it’s a hoot to revisit this world, using the old D&D rules from the 1990s. But Siege of Dragonspear hints at more — a studio that’s done with just enhancing older games and ready to carve out a place among the top storytellers in the RPG sector. Beamdog’s first effort at original storytelling is a good start, and I’m excited to see more in the future, even if it’s in the world of Baldur’s Gate.

Baldur's Gate Still Has It.

This game is an excellent continuation of the series. If you liked the original games, you'll like Siege of Dragon Spear. It has an interesting story, great writing, and my personal favorite, a fatalistic goblin you can recruit into your party. It has the occasional glitch, but no worse than other new titles. If Beamdog can just figure out a way to fix the silly rest mechanics, I'd love to see them do a Baldur's Gate Three.

An Attempt to Ruin a Classic

Let me preface this this by saying I'm a huge Baldur's Gate fan. The series is very important to me, and i feel like most people who picked the Enhanced Edition feel the same way. This game takes all of the assets of the original and bastardizes all of the game feel and the entire world that Black Isle originally created. The writing is constantly shoving irrelevant and poorly written current political commentary into a world where you shoot fire out of your hands at ogres. Jokes about gamer gate and styled dialogue feel out of place and muddle the tone. Flat new characters and complete changes of established characters furthers the disconnect between the player and what was once an amazing setting. It pains me to say such things about my favorite series, but objectively I have to say this is one of the worst CRPGs of the last decade. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. There are many better RPGs out that offer far more in the way of a complete and well executed experience.

wish bioware made this one

First to anyone who is wanting to buy it because they love the Original BG games (that was Black Isle), don't expect it to be like them at all, first of all Bioware didn't remake the games nor did they create this one, think it was a someone called Beamdog. The story, companions and such just aren't on part and there are alot of bugs to contend with, so I would only recommend it to someone who is just curius and not one who wants to play a BG game.

Buggy, poorly written trash that openly disrespects its VASTLY SUPERIOR predecessors (BG 1 & 2)! Avoid this game at ALL COSTS!
