Great game, but not very scary!
This game is a masterpiece. It has beautiful level design, and great voice acting. It is just missing one thing... It needs to be scary! Yes, there was some scares here and there, but it was not even close to the scares delivered in the first game. I think they should have made the game independent and not have the name "Amnesia" infront of the main name "A Machine For Pigs". If they want to make an 2nd Amneisa, they better try a lot harder with the scares. But then again, it has a fantastic story and unbelievable level design. It is definitely better than Amnesia: The Dark Decent in which the level design, but the scares need to be a lot better!

More of a narrative experience
As a lot of reviews before this one mentioned quite clearly, do not expect this to be a sequel to Amnesia. This game is still about Lovecraftian horror stories, but you won't find challenging puzzles, gameplay is really simplified to it's core. As the game was made by «The Chinese Room», developers of «Dear Esther», it's more a horrific narrative experience than a horror game. You will walk the streets and undergrounds of the city, fearing for monsters to appear, trying to continue your progression without getting caught. The game is pretty intense, just do not expect Amnesia 2. Also, it might be one of the shortest of the Frictional Games.

Think Dear Esther, not Dark Descent
While some of the other reviews are too harsh in my opinion, this is still very far from a true horror game to me. It is indeed very short, and while there were a couple of jump scares, it is nothing like as terrifying or engrossing as The Dark Descent was. It is extremely short on actual gameplay, but works fairly well as a sort-of-interactive storybook. It has a nice story and some good setpieces, but keep all the above in mind before buying.

New Amnesia...or is it?
I think that this game is not even close to be as scary as the first one, but It has much better story and soundtrack. In a first hour I was really dissapointed but then I was surprised by interesting story and great soundtrack. Instead of simple fear you can feel disturbed and morally challenged. This game is creepy but in more psychological way. You will not fear monsters. I would almost say that the scenes where are monsters after you are one of the weakest ( with some exceptions ). I don´t want to spoil anything so I cannot say too much about concrete examples why this game is actually pretty great, It is one of those game you have to play through to trully get it. But I will write down what this game has and what it lacks. Cons: Gameplay is reduced to movement, pulling your lantern out and basic interaction with objects. Not scary at all. Not a great improvement in graphic since first game. Really weak start. As far as I know, only one ending. Pros: Awesome story. Twists are actually pretty decent. Great soundtrack. Solid atmosphere. Can get into your head and makes you doubt what is right and what is wrong. I really enjoyed this game, but I do not need as great gameplay if story, dialogues and atmosphere are solid. If you are like me, this game is for you...
