For a universe-trotting adventure where you ..., Amid Evil is pretty cool. Yet one question kept recurring as I played: so what? For all its polish, Amid Evil is not a game that can compete with either its 90s progenitors or more modern FPS games. From the outset, Amid Evil follows a winning formula. Doom's arsenal with a fantasy makeover, a new aesthetic and roster of enemies every few levels, along with some fine tuning... But again, so what? Even on Evil difficulty (the hardest), basic circle strafing is often enough to sustain you between health pickups because most enemies have long windups (easily stunnable) to slow projectile attacks (easily dodgable). The exceptions don't fare much better, because Amid Evil

Overhyped Game but good price on sale

Not enough enemies even in evil difficulty The BORING wandering around ruins the atmosphere of the game No crouch toggle crouch is disabled in mid air so you have to perfectly time pressing crouch when you land....in 2021. If you don't know why this is an issue you will find out. The light source is a secret item....... Abuse of darkness by hiding secrets behind complete black textures abuse of key placement no light source amid an entire arsenal of "glowing" weapons in a "magic phantasy" realm game pace is destroyed by the aimless wandering large levels just seem like an abuse of game padding rather than immersion They remove the BS of underwater and fall damage only to replace it with annoying level design that is ruined by aimless wandering. More effort was put into hiding EVERYTHING rather than making sure its a fast paced experience that isn't ruined by aimless wandering for items. It doesn't make any sense. May look classic but misses the mark of classic games, fast paced, fast secrets, minimal exploration. Glad I got it on sale. This review is based on the base version of the release. Why would I try anything else if the game is this obnoxious?

Terrible Level design

Not only are some of the levels an absolute chore to play they are also some of the most garbage levels I have seen from an FPS. Don't waste your money. Oh and fuck the Arcane Expanse, shit sucks man.
