Alpha Protocol

I swear, every morning, I'd wake up to play this. I haven't felt like that in a long while. The push for "modern gaming" has been quite stale for some time now. Not every game needs to be about graphics, graphics, graphics. Playing this reminded me of that. Relatively easy-to-follow storyline, engaging gameplay, no push for the "message". Just pure, simple fun. To put it simply, this game feels like Splinter Cell, Hitman, and Mass Effect all had a baby. It's so incredibly unique that it's almost a disservice to compare it to those games. That isn't to say that it's perfect. By all means, no. There's quite a bit of scuff actually in this game, and the gameplay does have a bit of a learning curve. But once you realize this game's potential, it's really hard to put down. Also, it works straight out of the box. I imagined it would have a hard time getting to work due to its age, but nope, it works flawlessly. And you can even enhance it more by messing with the ini settings if you wish. All in all, I highly recommend it.

I know this kind of breaks the first rule but I just want to say Thank you GOG for bringing this game back. It's things like this why I adore this platform. It helps retain my faith in the gaming industry that a group exists to ensure gems like Alpha Protocol can be enjoyed by future generations. Note I have not played the GOG version but have played both the Steam release and X360 version. This game has some incredible flaws, but what the game does well, it does really really well. There are elements from some of your favoruite games, think Splinter Cell mets Lara Croft mixed with RPG elements. You will become engrossed in the story. You will at times doubt you made the 'right' choice throughout the story and this will of course make you want to play through the game again, if you're okay with slightly more than usual jank for a game from this period then you will absolutely enjoy it. It truly deserved a sequel, but I'm just glad this game is back on shelves again.. well digital shelves at least :)

You know the drill, this was a bug ridden mess when it launched, cover system was broken, terrible crosshair for all the guns, junky movement, enemy AI is terrible most of the time, and installing mods such as "Alpha Protocol Rebalanced" and several tweaks from "Alpha Protocol Improved!" like "BetterReticle", "TrueCrosshairs"and "SmootherMovement" was pretty much mandatory. But, hear me out, under the broken cover shooter mess of this game, lies one of the best choices and consequence narrative-driven RPG of all time, the cheer amount of variations on the story is simply mind-boggling. It's really one of those games that you need to play at least two times with different play styles to start to understand what a gem this game is. And finally, thanks GOG for bringing this game back, and Raycevick for bringing this to my attention a few years back, you're all truly wonderful.

For all the video games I could show my grand kids.

Lots of good ideas, a few rough ones but everything works well enough. great game.
