A downgrade from alan wake
It's a decent game with a fun new spin on shooters but a horrible horror, so bad it's not even listed as a horror game on gog. it certainly improves on the combat portion of alan wake, without a doubt with new guns and a wide range of enemies, something that was lacking in alan wake originally. However it lacks the same tone as the original by such a huge margin that it's hard to believe that this is a sequel. If it was a spin off I wouldn't complain but it's a direct sequel so it's huge tonal shift and lack of much of a story seems odd. The ending was super rushed and the game was clearly over padded. There's 3 open map areas with NPC's that you talk to, something that never occurred in the original. The npc's have no reason to be talked to any further than the cutscenes they're featured in although the TV shows more interesting things on it which all takes place in a single set room (a 1 room apartment). Don't get me wrong, the game's a blast it's just it's not what the original was and it's very short which 60% of the story mode being the same thing played again (back tracking) instead of any new meaningful content being shown or added
