Best at what it does
Simply the greatest fantasy turn-based-strategy of all time. Dripping with as much theme as Warlords but with awesome tactical combat, and a surprisingly competent AI- don't leave your hero hanging out there!

One Of The All-Time Greats
This game rules. Tactical is fun. 4X is fun. Heroes are fun. The playable races and units are fun. The UI is dated and takes some time to re-learn but once you get it down, it is worth it. I wish the newer games in the series still had the depth of this one.

One of best memories
I enjoyed this game so much as a teen. The empire-building, the rolle-playing elements, exploring, crawling, finding items. This was just so much fun. Keep in mind the game is almost 20 years old, so don't expect fireworks. AoW 3 is also a good game for those who want a better graphics, but it doesn't have that slight touch of awesomnes that the first one had. PS. The animation of dying goblins always made me laught.

A great little time waster. Some of the screens are a bit confusing. I sent part of my army to the eather by accident in my first controlled battle because it was not clearly delineated what my target was and what the grey area was?
