Star Wars™ Empire at War: Gold Pack includes Star Wars™ Empire at War and the expansion pack Star Wars™ Empire at War: Forces of Corruption
Command or corrupt an entire galaxy in the definitive Star Wars™ strategy collection. It is a time of galactic civil war. Will you take up the reins of the Rebellion, assume control of the Empire, or rule the Star Wars Underworld?
Star Wars™ Empire at War From the lives of soldiers to the deaths of planets, you are the supreme galactic commander. It is a time of galactic civil war. Take up the reins of the Rebellion or assume control for the Empire. Whichever you choose, it will be up to YOU to steer your side to ultimate victory. Command everything from individual troops to starships and even the mighty Death Star as you execute campaigns on the ground, in space and across the galaxy. Forget tedious resource gathering – just jump straight into the heart of the action. You can even change Star Wars history! Every decision affects your next battle and every battle helps shape the fate of the galaxy.
Star Wars™ Empire at War: Forces of Corruption:
You’ve played the light side. You’ve played the dark side. Now play the corrupt side! As Tyber Zann you’ll stop at nothing to become the most notorious criminal leader since Jabba the Hutt. With all new tactics like piracy, kidnapping, racketeering and bribery, you can control the shadowy forces of corruption in your attempt to rule the Star Wars underworld. Don’t just control the galaxy…corrupt it!
It's a 4X game with everything that comes with it. The management of the systems etc is ok, a bit lite, but still enjoyable. The space battles are fun well worth playing the game for them. The land battles is the major problem of this game. They become an exercise in how patient you are. They get very grindy. After you play once a ground battle, I propose to automate them and focus in space. If not, make sure you always have long range units or space support before you invade any planet.
This game has both great gameplay and poor gameplay mixed in it.
The management part of the game is boring and uninspired and the ground battles are a mess. However, the space battles are great fun ! I've played them extensively in LAN with friends and we really enjoyed it.
Pros:
*Space battles. The mount system makes for a great way to fight...pick your target, get that shield generator down then the engines rather than "just attacking".
*Graphics. Might not be as good now as they seemed at the time but still pretty good and with max FSAA the game still looks neat.
Cons:
*Ground Battles. Those aren't what you'd expect. If you're a fan of RTS such as total annihilation or Starcraft, you won't be having much fun with these.
*Lackluster management. Not your average 4X game here either.
To sum it up, the game could have been an all time great if the ground battles were given more time and polish and the map part was a bit more fun. Still, it's one of those few games that really give an impression you're part of the star wars universe and the space battles are very fun !
At that price, the game is definitely worth it.
Some of the best mods in the world for this game, get them.
Here are just some off the top of my head that are great
Absolute Enhancment Mod 4.5
Steiner Advance Unit Mod Reloaded
The base version of the game does not perform at all on modern hardware. I have a Xeon E3 1231-v3, 32GB RAM, and GTX 1060 6GB and the frame rate will slowly drop to slide show speeds.
There is a bug in the base game that causes performance issues on PCs with more than 2GB of RAM, fortunately, the Star Wars support site has a patch for this issue called EAW_RAM_MPLobby_update. After installing the patch the game was much smoother. Wish GOG would include that patch with the download so I didn't have to hunt it down.
GOG is selling an outdated 32-bit version when this game has been updated to run at 64-bit everywhere else. And from forums, its seems that it may not ever be updated. Buying this from GOG is a complete ripoff. Buyer beware since there is no notice of this anywhere on this page. I'm surprised GOG can even get away with selling an outdated version without warning the buyer on the market page. Seems like false advertising to me...
