Star Trek™: Starfleet Command III

For anyone having trouble getting the game to run on Windows 10, try deleting the "dbghelp.dll" file from your game directory. Game works perfectly for me after removing this file.

This game works fine on windows 10 in my experience right out of box. I guess i got lucky in that. I have done a few tutorial missions and it is flowing smoothly and responding as it should. The voices sound good the ship moves smoothly phaser fire is bright ext. I think i'll always prefer 2 but then again i'm a bit biased. If you are annoyed by the black bars on the screen what you have to do is: Open gog games in your program files. Open up games. In the games folder look for dxcfg.exe. This is a program that is called directX wrapper. Open it up and change Display mode to your computer's resolution. It's likely going to be 1902x1080 60 HZ. Then change presentation to full screen. Lastly you need to change aspect ratio correction to disabled. You can adjust the rest as you see fit. Fire the game up and it will be fullscreen and looking as best as it will. I spent a hour doing a lot of research on this and just ended up poking around and found it. This game sounds good

I was a big fan of the first two Starfleet Command games but never bothered with this one at the time (I prefer the TOS film era, to TNG). However, this is a great addition to the series. Patrick Stewart narrates large sections of dialogue (The tutorial for example). The game is, like the previous entries in the series, a flawed gem. Some of the control issues remain and on a modern system, there are some issues with ship animations (can't see your ship at warp, for example) but these are minor. I nearly didn't purchase this because of the problems running it that others have had. I own SFC2 and can't get that to work any more, but I gave this a shot and it worked without any adjustment. So it's a risk/reward choice. Worth it, in my opinion but if you wouldn't be comfortable applying the hotfixes suggested by others, mayeb wait until the issue is confirmed to be fixed.

It was great to see this title be available for purchase here on GOG. Since running it I've not encountered any major problems and I've been playing through the Klingon Campaign. It would be nice if it had adjustable resolutions but apart from that, a smoother way to play compared to the last time I tried to install from disc on Windows 10
