disappointed customer

This is not a negative review, although i understand why you my think that from the title. I haven't put a lot of time into the game, but the game play seems fun enough, fun, retro based graphics and animations, and the ability to customize almost everything should give those looking for a good football game a lot of hours of play time. The reason why I'm a disappointed customer is the Franchise mode. I'm an Arm Chair GM and that is the biggest reason i play sports games. When i saw that this had an endless Franchise mode (and the fact that it was 20% off) I got excited and i bought the game. The problem is that the Franchise mode is somewhat barebones. No big Free Agent pool to pick from, no in depth contract negotiations, no trading for a player you covet or extra draft picks. Every week from week 4 until 12, a player wire pops up, says one of your players wants a raise, you can either accept (you get 3 a season) or refuse, in which case he gets traded for a random player from a random team of the same position but lesser rating (and sometimes there isn't anyone from your team). Once in a while, you get an offer for a player another team wants to trade to you and you can pick which player (of that same position) you want to send back. In the off season, for Free Agency, it gives you 3 players and you have to choose which one to drop in which case you receive a random player of the same position of lesser skill from a random team. Then it tells you of a random player another team has dropped and if you want to pick him up and which player (of the same position) to drop. During the full 7 round draft, you pick a player, and then you have to pick which player of the same position you want to drop. So, good game, shallow Franchise. If Franchise isn't your thing, this review may not even affect you, but if you are after an in depth Franchise mode, you may want to skip this, at least for now, they may update and expand Franchise mode in the future.

The Old Days

If you remember Techmo Bowl you'll love this. I got it on Steam so I might as well get it here as well. Where this game really shines is the feel of football (not to mention the NFL mod). Sure, you can play the vanilla (stock) teams but most of us want the NFL feel. If I can install it, anyone can. But it's also fun playing a created team, going in with no preconceived ideas of how it SHOULD play out. You can do roster changes/moves, draft, etc, just like the "other" game, only better. The Devoper is VERY passionate about his game (and that's a good thing), and listens to the public. This game, IMO, will stick around for a long time mostly because the developer has more upgrades on the way, not to mention, a growing fan-base. Gameplay/Graphics: Gameplay is where it's at. No Madden riff-raff. You all know what I mean. The meat and potatoes is all I want. Everybody is so enraptured with 4K graphics, and whine that this game is pixels. That's how it was designed. The peeps that complain are the same peeps who are enslaved with "that other game." Amusing to no end. Here's my fave feature: The Franchise mode It was originally slated for sometime down the road but we got a surprise when King Javo (developer) announced Franchise mode would be released. Uhhhh.....okay. Apparently it was under wraps for a while.....well,....I can now play my fave team for 100+ years if I wanted to. Yes, it's unlimited AFAIK. Some pointers: I would suggest you go through the tutorial FIRST. Trust me, the kicking aspect is brutal. It's all about timing. So do yourself a favor...do the tutorial. I can't emphasize that enough. A hope for a non-windy day. :) Conclusion: I could go on and on but I'll sum it up here: Buy it, if you're tired of the Big Boy BS. When Tiburon left the Madden title....so did I. I don't need all the off-field drama and eye-candy junk. I want gameplay. Yes, GAMEPLAY. And this game has it.

Much deeper than its 16bit aesthetic

A tremendously fun 11 on 11 gridiron football experience. There's real depth to the on-field gameplay! Much more than the charming retro aesthetic would imply. The franchise mode is quite streamlined, but allows for a very immersive management experience with emergent stories for all the players and teams. Loads of customization and stat tracking will keep you interested for season after season. Amazing that only 1 developer put this together, and it only falls short in very tiny specific ways (no pass interference or fake kicks for example) Nothing else has scratched my digital football itch like this in many many years.

Better than Madden any day

The retro aesthetic belies an incredibly deep gameplay mechanic. it's not easy at first, but eventually you'll get a feel for it. The amount of team & player customization is wild. Franchise Mode will keep you busy for a long time. There's no DLC or any of EA's BS money grabbing schemes. The fact that Legend Bowl was developed by ONE guy, and the effort you see when you play this says a lot. You see the money on the screen, as they say. He deeply cares about this project, and is very active in the player community. He listens to feedback, and makes changes as needed. Once you get the hang of it, you may never go back to Madden. Buy this now. It's worth it at full price.

Good game.Bad support.

Best football sim i have played in years. However support on GOG is poor and the game download is outdated as of this writing. Have posted the issue in the forum and the developers you tube channel with no response
