Description

Her world: destroyed. Her family: kidnapped. Join our heroine Yui in a desperate attempt to save everything she loved! YesterMorrow is a single-player time-travelling 2D platformer mixing action sequences with puzzle elements. Follow Yui's adventure into the past where she must overcome obstacles and access hidden locations to salvage the remnants of a world trapped in Never-ending Night. Intent on helping the remaining survivors and freeing her family from the clutches of Shadows, what she discovers along the way will leave her with a difficult choice: what will she choose when the fate of her world and the Order of Timekeepers rests in her hands?

Through her journey, Yui will:

  • Learn the mysteries of Everlight that will grant her the power to wield special abilities and cleanse the world from the Shadows.
  • Traverse across two different timelines, enjoying the serene calmness of the past and battling her way through the corrupted world of the future.
  • Explore the vast world of YesterMorrow, spanning four distinct islands: visit lush forests, abandoned deserts, hardened icy tundras and finally, the Island of Time, where she will fight to change the fate of her world!
  • Encounter dozens of colourful creatures and take on challenging bosses.
  • Solve puzzles and find new ways to use the environment to her advantage!
  • Locate hidden areas, collecting power ups and lore entries detailing the world and its inhabitants.
  • Pet all the animals!

maybe something of a hardcore platformer

YesterMorrow is, as expected, a nice little action platformer with some nice puzzles, solid grafics and fitting music. Gameplay is rather linear, no side missions and you don't have much option to explore. But why the title? (possible rant/whining ahead) While progressing in the game I noticed that I had to be more and more precise with my jumps and the excecution of the abilities in order to just advance through the plot. Which is not nscessarily a bad thing, but for me that ment that I had to redo one "simply on the way puzzle" around 50 times since it required very precise and fast jumps with no margin for error to speak of. Shortly after that came a "lava rising" scenario that requires you at its end to perform a specific action, which is not really well explained or obvious (to me at least). Which in my case ment running up there and then wondering what to do. (for about 2 seconds, then "lava") . Over and over again. But this may all be because of my lack of skill in these kind of games. Final verdict? If you like platforming games where you have to be fast and precise, this game might be yours. If you are someone who's looking for a more casual platformer, better go and look somewhere else.

A pretty game that doesn't feel good

When you have a gameplay that is like 90% platforming, you'd better ensure the controls feel good. They don't. The character feels floaty and some of the collision detection was terrible. There were several places where I had to keep redoing something because suddenly my character would just fall through the platform, or wouldn't grab a wall, or after being hit would fire in a random direction at 100 miles per hour. There was virtually no reason to explore as 99/100 times you'd only find an animal to pet. Also: Text. Displays. At. It's. Own. Speed. I'd read every message about 5 times before the next one would appear. Cardinal sin in my book. That said. It's very pretty.

Bugs

Too many bugs that make it impossible to do backtracking. If you miss something, there's no going back.

Horrible controls.

This game has horrible controls that, of course, cannot be changed. It it also full of dialog that cannot be skipped. If you can live with that then I guess the game is fine, and pretty. But I don't know why developers still to this day can get away with controls the player can't change at all. This isn't the only game from this developer where this is a problem.

A decent platformer.

"YesterMorrow" is a decent platformer. It's a tad bit hard to my taste, and some segments are, in my humble opinion, too long to replay in case of a failure, also some mechanics could be more polished (talking to NPCs requires you to stand a few steps away from them, the cutscenes can neither be skipped nor fast-forwarded). This game is a great pick if you're into platformers.
