SEGA PLEASE PORT MORE GAMES DRM FREE

this game is fantastic. compared to the other yakuzas, I'm not super into the jrpg mechanics but I like them enough. that's my review, solid game. I just wanted to say to sega that I bought the 70$ edition JUST to support this game getting free'd from the shackles of denuvo drm on steam. I don't know how cdprojekt got you guys onboard but just know, for EVERY GAME THAT HAS DENUVO ON STEAM THAT DOESN'T HERE, I WILL BUY. this is ignoring my bias for steam and not liking gog for not making a galaxy client on steamdeck that has cloud and achievement support. i am willing to look past all my discomforts when you remove that unholy garbage known as DENUVO from your games. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. next if you wanna put persona 5 on here, or strikers or persona 4 or sonic origins on here, I'll double dip and buy it again drm free on here. not a fan of the pricing but any price is worth it for removing denuvo. I hope I see more games from you guys here and I hope you eventually remove the drm from the steam versions too. welcome to gog sega.

One of the greatest.

The Yakuza franchise is know for its beat em up combat, and Like a Dragon totally changes that to Turn Based RPG style. Usually this kind of change in a franchise is not really well seen and not always end up being good but Ryu Ga Gotoku have nailed it, there is even a reason for why all the enemies changes appearance and the changes of professions is... actually a change of profession. The story still have the qualities of the previous games, very funny in the side missions/stories and serious in the main missions. Kazuga Ichiban is a very funny protagonist and a welcome change. All about this game makes this a new start for the Yakuza series while maintaining most of the good qualities of the old ones.

One of the Best JRPGs in Years

No you did not misread that, this game is a JRPG combined with a Yakuza game. And it's probably one of my all-time favorites. It's still very much a Yakuza game with a plethera of minigames including Mahjong, Karaoke, and Batting Center, a ton of well-written Sub Stories, and two major side stories called Business Management and Dragon Kart (a straight-up Mario Kart clone). One of the biggest changes you'll notice if you've played any of the games is the combat, which has been changed from real-time combat to a turn-based one based a party of four and the Job class system from the early Final Fantasy games. And this is maybe one of the best parts of the game as it's classes like Break Dancer, Pop Idol, and Riot Squad that each have their own specializations and Heat Actions that have been reimagined as special moves. You also get Summons in the form of a Smartphone app where you use your money to summon random bodyguards such as a crayfish rainstorm, a little girl with a donation box that sucks money out of enemies, and, later on, legacy characters from the series. The main story is probably one of the series' best as it revolves around a new protagonist, Kasuga Ichiban, and his misadventures through Yokomama. Unlike other protagonists, he's not a high-ranking official but a low-rank grunt that usually on the recieving end of Kiryu's punches. But I wound up really liking him as he's optimistic, hilarious, a bit naive, loyal to a fault with his friends, and never lets anything get him down. Oh, and he suffers from an overactive imagination and is a megafan of Dragon Quest. And the rest of the supporting cast is equally great and likable enough to where you actually cared about what happened to them, which is highly important in a JRPG. If you are wondering about the DLC, you don't need it. I haven't played it but I heard the two classes you get only one of them is worth it. But you can stick with the base game and the same fantastic experience. Recommended.

Thank you, SEGA and RGG Studio!

Finished this game recently on PS5. While I'm more of a Judgement fan, the turn-based JRPG mechanics are a nice but tedious change of pace from the beat-em-up/RPG hybrid of the older Yakuza games. My biggest complaint about Y:LAD is how they totally killed the pacing, with game events feeling noticeably slower than its older Yakuza counterparts. Other than that, its a totally killer JRPG that I recommend to anyone into turn-based JRPGs and the Yakuza series.
