X-COM: Earth's top-secret eXtraterrestrial COMbat unit

The Place: America - early 21st century

The Mission: Eradicate the extraterrestrials

Alien forces have invaded Earth and are terrorizing the population. To combat this sinister threat, a lone X-COM scientist has created the Enforcer, a high-tech fighting machine made of earthly robotics and scavenged alien technology.

Armed with the latest high-powered weapons, the Enforcer is sent into alien hot spots to fight in adrenaline-charged battles that rage on city streets, across rooftops and in the sewers. YOU are the Enforcer.

Powered by the same game engine as Unreal Tournament™, X-COM ENFORCER™ puts you on the front line of an alien attack.

Not XCOM, but it's not the game's fault

This game has nothing to do with XCOM, and that's where the majority of dislike for it comes from. If you're a die-hard fan of XCOM and aren't interested in anything bearing the name if it's not a devilishly hard strategy/tactics game, that's all you need to know. If you don't particularly care about the real XCOM games or are simply willing to look past the irrelevant title, this is actually a surprisingly fun little third person shooter. You play a cyborg with a jetpack and unlimited ammunition shooting your way through hordes of aliens. You collect credits as you go, and at the end of each level buy various upgrades. Some are things like more health or speed, but the important ones are unlocking and upgrading new weapons. Once unlocked, weapons constantly spawn as powerups throughout subsequent levels, with limited ammunition but frequent enough spawns that you'll quickly find yourself picking up weapons much faster than you can use them up. The biggest flaw is that it takes too long to get going. The first several levels don't have many enemies or much variety in their type, and you're stuck fighting them with just a couple of rather lame guns. Once you get further in, you'll be running through hordes of aliens with your finger jammed continuously on the fire button flinging grenades, plasma balls and nukes at giant robot dinosaurs. Voice acting is limited to your incredibly camp creator shouting at you to kill aliens over the radio, and he would sound more at home in the Rocky Horror Show than an XCOM game. Story and strategy are essentially nonexistent, it's mindless twitch-based flashy fun, not a thinking game. If anything, it's more bullet-hell than standard shooter. If you want a tactical, cover-based shooter, this is not it. If you want an old-school, resource hording shooter, this is not it either. If you enjoy running around in circles blowing the crap out of everything with a variety of over-the-top flashy weapons, you may well enjoy this game.

Relentless, mindless action. Great fun.

This is the most fun I've had with shooters in a long, long time. It's just pure carnage that never lets up. The levels are interesting and each has different objectives to prevent the killing from getting stale. The upgrade system is fantastic too. The buffs each upgrade gives you are huge so you end up flying around the levels at ridiculous speeds within a few missions. The full game is about 3-4 hours long on normal mode so it doesn't last long enough to get boring. If it wasn't for the XCOM name people would have loved this.

Genre Mashup Fun

Forget the rest of the X-Com series; Enforcer plays like the third-person love child of Alien Shooter and Painkiller (with maybe a touch of Mobile Suit Gundam). In this third-person shooter, you are the "Enforcer," a machine built specifically to destroy alien invaders. Wave after wave of aliens come at you fast and furious while you try to eradicate every green-blooded baddie and the transporters they're warping in while also rescuing hostages, collecting weapons upgrades, health upgrades, and bonus letters (that unlock special, alien-free bonus rounds). To make things even more frantic, you're only allowed to carry one weapon at a time. Each kill drops collectible "data points" that can be used between rounds to purchase permanent improvements to your weapons and mech suit. Like the Alien Shooter and Painkiller series, Enforcer is completely brainless, but an absolute blast to play. Turn down the in-game techno soundtrack, crank up the metal, and go spill some green blood!

If you wanna unwind, it's good.

Don't expect anything true X-Com in here. It's a short, fun, and quirky arcade shooter to kill a little bit of time. It's good fun in small doses though camera isn't perfect and the doctor never shuts up.

Back off space freaks

I'm honestly surprised by how much fun I had playing through this. The game is just pure chaos. Some of the earlier weapon pickups you're saddled with aren't enjoyable at all, such as the flamethrower and freeze gun. But once you get a hold of the mass driver, a weapon that fires these high-intensity bolts and looks a bit like a portable rail gun, things definitely pick up. There's also this spinning saw weapon which is a lot of fun at close range when you're dealing with dozens upon dozens of enemies surrounding you. On top of the fast paced gameplay you'll hear some humorous monotone lines from the cyborg you're playing as and encouraging words from the scientist who created it, which do a good job of injecting a nice amount of character into the game. There's also a pretty good soundtrack. The whole thing felt like a third-person Smash TV at times. I'd say the game is definitely worth checking out if you're interested. It's only 3-5 hours long anyway.
