First impresion - a short taste

It works on my potato just fine, so it's certainly not demanding. I like the music a lot and having your character formed fluidly while making choices is a new approach in a visual novel. And a character sheet is used to track the character's info, attributes and relationships with others including the forest, probably like in the pen and paper version of Werewolf the Apocalypse (I'm speculating since I haven't played any pen and paper games). What's set in stone in the demo is that she's female and probably a werewolf with dormant wolf nature. You can pick different, but related goals: e.g. why does the forest "call" to the protagonist or what her family history is. The artwork works, but it's weird. The background art is of calm, dark colors mostly and the foreground characters are brighter, like old brown photographs with a bit of a painting-like touch. Hard to describe without an image. I suppose it works, but I prefer the background's tone a lot. Be warned that the protagonist will dream of a severed head early on and some horror will be present later as well in vision/dream of a past event. The vibe so far is rather mystical, but the horror part doesn't feel graphic due to the artwork's style, it's the text that gives the unsettling undertone. Your choices aren't timed in any way and whenever you pause the game you see how far through a chapter you are, but it is plainly stated that Unity will collect some data from your play sessions like how long they last or what hardware you use. If you go to Options and "Unity analytics personal data management" a website will open with more details. A playthrough is short, probably under an hour and just enough to have the first chapter end and tell you under what moon phase the character was born and what her role in werewolf society would be. Not the typical "slash the enemy" approach for me, but I'll be rather curious about the full game.

A Good First Bite For Newcomers...

The demo is, essentially, the eerie and atmospheric opening chapters of a Choose Your Own Adventure novel set in the World of Darkness, focusing on a werewolf yet to go through their first change. It does a good job getting the story in motion, as well as serving as a fine introduction for those not familiar with the concept of Werewolf. Your choices inform the nature and goals of the POV character, as well as her starting stats. From there, you pursue one of several mysteries. The demo takes about 20 minutes, and it's worth looking at if you're looking for a bit of low-key horror to pass the time. Definitely whets the appetite for the full game.

Awesome and Nostalgic

I grew up in the era of those text games. So this is quite nostalgic. This is wonderful and set in the world of darkness. I really like what these guys are doing here. The demo is well made and runs perfectly. I am actually looking forward to the full version. I suggest you give it a try, small download and you can finish the demo with a real taste of what the game would be like in 30 mins or less.

Hungry like the wolf for the full game

I never thought I would want a text adventure game so badly. I never thought I'd be inspired to make any kind of game outside of RPG Maker. Heck, I never thought I'd take more interest in World of Darkness than I have. This demo, maybe a half-hour long, changed that. Given the flowery intro, can you believe my version of Maia turned out to be a Storyteller? There's just enough in this opening adventure, the prologue and at least half the first chapter, to make me hunger for the full game. The stats are kept simple -- Rage, Willpower and Health, at least for this first entry. The demo's like a tutorial, and serves to give you an idea of what kind of character you'd wind up playing as in the full game. In addition, it teases enough about the story to hook you without revealing too much. I gasped when I hit the demo's end. It felt too soon, but it was longer than I realized! I was that in the zone! There's some cool mechanics in place. For instance specific responses are locked in, based on Maia's personality traits. I played blind, having Maia act and reply like I'd react in her shoes, and I implore any players to do the same. I think there was all of one grammatical issue, but it wasn't game-breaking. I'm stoked to see how the RPG elements fall into place for the full game. Next paycheck, I'm picking the game up. Until then, my mind will be abuzz on how to recreate something like this for my own projects. I mess around with RPG Maker, after all. :p

Impressions of the demo

Interesting story and characters. Good music. Not a game for everyone as it's visual novel but it's pleasant nonetheless. Hard to tell if choices have really more impact on the story as it's just a demo.
