a fun rpg-rts with one huge flaw
Have you ever had a game when you were young that you really loved? Then you see the game on gog fully compatable with your new computer, buy it and find out it's a very different beast? This is one of them. Warlords Battlecry 3 is an odd combination of rts game and rpg ( a precurser of warcraft 3) that focuses on an awesome singleplayer experience and insane heroes. With 16 races each with unique units you're bound to find one you like! But the game would be generic without its heros. The heros in this game are what makes this game shine. It's incredibly rewarding raising your hero from a wimp into a dragon slaying demigod or the master of a army you made in seconds or the ultimate sorceror etc. The single player experience is focused on leveling up your hero and getting better loot (much like diablo) but like an rts you (for most missions anyway) have to build up a base and build a army. Now for the reason why I didn't give it a 5 star like it deserves is mostly gogs fault.(warning rant mode on) They nerfed the heros. O_o They snuck in an unofficial patch (without asking or warning) that ruins all the summoning spells which some races (like undead) rely on. What it does is give the summoned units a time limit. So for the undead their units constantly upgrade if you have the resources to upgrade but... the timer persists!! So your army will collapse on you and your resources you spent on them will not come back! >:( Now there is a simple solution to this that I wish gog would do. Make it an option to turn off the summon timer for single player THEN it will get my 5 star! Peace.
