Description
Engage in epic Real Time Strategy warfare across the Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean, this is naval warfare on a global scale.

It is World War II and the age of the dreadnoughts has passed and naval warfare is being dominated by Aircraft Carriers. Submarines hunt convoys like wolves and the numerous and nimble destroyers rule the oceans.

Destroy enemy battleships, torpedo enemy convoys and hunt the enemy wherever you may find them.

Advance through the naval ranks from a Captain of a Destroyer to an Admiral of a vast fleet. Win medals for your exploits, and help your chosen nation achieve victory in each campaign.

Plan your own strategy

In Victory At Sea your destiny is in your hands. Once in the campaign what you do next is up to you.
  • Harass enemy shipping to starve their ports of vital supplies.
  • Destroy the enemy patrols and weaken their defences.
  • Defend your friendly convoys and keep your supply lines open.
  • Lead an assault force with landing craft to capture enemy ports.
  • Go on covert operations.
  • Complete special missions.
With over 80 classes of ship and hundreds of ports there are a multitude of playing options. Will you build your fleet around the terrifying firepower of the battleships, sneak around with a submarine wolf pack or look to dominate the skies with carriers?

A combination of sandbox elements and the deadly combat of RTS naval warfare ensures a vast number of possibilities. Slow the action down or speed it up with the time slider, allowing you to command multiple ships quickly and effectively during huge battles. Weather conditions and time of day are also major factors in the game. Will it help or hamper you? Combat at night can be an intense experience.

Other combat Modes

Victory at Sea also offers the chance to experience some of World War II's most famous battles. The Historical Battle mode sets all the victory conditions for you. You just pick a side to fight on.
Create your own custom battles from small skirmishes to epic conflicts, choosing from Axis or Allied fleets with ships from 6 playable nations to choose from.

Fun. Not a simulation. Some rough edges

I would recommend this game to World of Warships fans who want to boss a whole squadron around. Also the same fans who want to be able to pause, accelerate time, and slow it down again. Also, if you liked Sid Meier's Pirates, but think it would be better if you replaced the trading with submarines and the swordfights with aircraft carriers, this might be for you. It's not the prettiest game in the world, but the graphics get the job done quite well. The campaign mode is not a naval career simulator, it's wandering the map making money for sinking ships and unlocking better ships and buying them. The battles are challenging, and torpedos are critical to the whole thing. The good news is that the enemy AI is quite bad at dodging torpedos (at least on Normal difficulty) and so it's possible to have some really satisfying adventures in a submarine or similar. The bad news is that the friendly AI is quite bad at dodging torpedos, and the enemy AI is not shy about launching them. There's a whole skill to learn in terms of using the camera and making sure that enemy torpedo attacks don't exterminate your entire fleet. (Now that I feel like I'm getting better at it, I'm rather pleased with myself.) There are a few annoyances, and a few things that don't quite make sense at first. And I rather wish the game had told me that I could rebuild a sunken ship for a fraction of the purchase price BEFORE I reloaded my game and played that battle again and again... All told, I picked this up on sale and am very satisfied with it.

Fun, but casual fleet tactics.

Don't go in expecting an in-depth fleet simulator. That being said, if you are looking to send a maximum amount of Japanese tonnage to Davy Jones' locker with a minimal time investment, sending out a torpedo spread in this game is very, very rewarding. Accessible real time with pause strategy, if a bit casual.

Solid Mount & Blade like with ships

Roam the seas picking fights and slowly expanding your fleet. Good fun, and not too complex with a wide variety of ships and three campaigns. Definitely not a full-blown simulator as the other review notes, but that is fine.

Not impressed so far

I got this hoping it would be an improvement over Fighting Steel. I played Fighting Steel for a long time but I can't get it stable on Windows 7. I have the latest Fighting Steel Project installed. That game is far superior. The graphics are dated but the camera views are better and the tactical control and data are far better. Data tables told you the different damage from the various guns and torpedos. This game doesn't even tell you what the range to the target is? Fighting Steel felt like a simulation. This feels like an arcade game. The developer just put something together that was pretty but does not seem to have much substance, a real shame.

Not perfect, but good at what it is

This is not a simulation. This is not purely arcade. The ship combat models are surprisingly in-depth, but the gameplay is low fidelity... it's not quite an RTS, but it's also not not-an-RTS. What I'm trying to say is that the game captures the feel of naval warfare without going out of its way to model it in exacting detail. It's fun, and it forces you to think critically about how to rock-paper-scissors enemy fleets of various composition. Scootching around the world map reminds me of Mount and Blade's world view, except the battles feel more engaging and less rinse-and-repeat. Where the game falls down is in the little things: selecting and commanding ships to move or attack sometimes only makes the last ship in the selection do anything, and free repairs and recoverable sunken ships feel unrealistic. A little more polish would make this game all it could be.
