UBOAT is a simulator of a submarine from WWII era, yet different than all you have seen so far. It is a survival sandbox with crew management mechanics while its primary theme is life of German sailors. The boat is their home, but it can become their grave at any time.
In UBOAT you control the crew in order to control the boat. You look after their physical and mental health, because if the sailors are hungry, tired and their spirit is low, there’s no chance of winning even a skirmish.
Survival
The extensive damage system is a foundation of the game's survival elements. Unprecedented situations are bound to happen as the effect of received damage, testing player's creativity and ability to stay calm. You can try to save the whole crew or leave someone behind, to save the others.
While your ship travels through the open seas, you will often find yourself being on your own. Use your management skills to spend resources taken on the trip optimally and in special cases try to recover them on the sea, by asking your allies for the help... or by looting wreckages of enemy ships.
Disable unnecessary devices, to keep your accumulators running for longer.
Tell your crew to stay in their bunks to preserve oxygen.
If crew's morale is low - play with them a session of Skat or play music from nearby radio stations, to fortify their hearts.
Kriegsmarine career
During the playthrough you will receive assignments from the Kriegsmarine headquarters. They are never linear and you may receive additional orders during them or face unexpected problems.
Brave completion of assignments from the headquarters is rewarded with additional budget for the unit under your command and with acceptance of your growing reputation as an u-boat's skipper. You will need that, to upgrade your ship and keep up with enemy's technological advances.
Upgrade your boat for the rewarded funds.
Receive additional permissions for the reputation points.
Buy new equipment - new torpedo types, sonar decoys, CO2 absorbers and much more.
Send your officers on special tasks in the headquarters to, among other things, speed up a research of new technologies.
Accurate simulation
Game's simulation elements are very realistic, but that never comes at a cost of gameplay quality. Despite extensive simulation elements, UBOAT can be played like a regular game and complex matters can be learned later to become a better skipper for the commanded unit.
Even small things like the influence of ballast in each compartment on the ship's trim (tilt) or Earth's curvature are faithfully reproduced in the game.
Perfection can be achieved in many ways. Prove your management skills and swiftly assign work to your officers to speed things up. If, on the other hand, you think that if something needs to be done, it's better to do that on your own - sit behind the periscope, hydrophone or 88 mm deck gun and take matters in your own hands!

Being a old Sub sim player This got my attention. The game play is different than games like Silent Hunter as there are more rpg elements. Being able to interact with the crew and operate from either a first person or third person view is a new experience The game is playable even though it's still being worked on.
Performance is poor however, even with recommended specs. You will struggle with frame rates unless your rig is a monster. Runs my cpu and gpu hard and hot. Hope thing will improve
This game really surprised me despite having a long way to go in “beta” state. Nevertheless, Uboat is still very playable if you work around the bugs and save often. It also looks rather stunning on a higher end system. Furthermore, if you love sub sims you are missing out.
Uboat primarily stresses the importance of logistics and crew management. Most time is spent managing the crew while jumping around the North Atlantic in and out of time compression while avoiding detection by enemy patrols. On the other hand, combat can be exhilarating with a sense of immersion unmatched by any other single player sub simulator. Consider it an achievement to sink one or two freighters and live to talk about it. Just make sure you have enough fuel and a healthy crew to make it home.
Some missions are milk runs; others are frightening ordeals. I have experienced patrols shadowing me for quite some time while submerged driving me to go deeper to evade. Escaping a depth charge attack is tense and deeply satisfying.
The future potential of this sim is fantastic.
Zuunu says only 3 updates. I have the game via STEAM. It was initially released in Apr 2019, v114. Since then, 115, 116, 117, 118, 119, 120, 121,122, 123, 124, 125, 126, 127 and 128 have come out and stabilized.129 was just released into early beta. It is unstable, but available for play testing. No less than FOURTEEN updates have been released since the initial version.
I do not play in 1st person, though that is an option. Over all, the sim does superb job, of replicating the stress of a subs wartime patrol. HIGHLY recommend this game.
As an old nuclear submariner myself, this game is pretty interesting! It took me a few plays to get using the crew and ship operations. This game is a challenge! Music, food varity, and workload definately are real things Bubbleheads have to deal with!
And having a MONSTER PC helps (hehe) running 2SLI GTX970, 16GB RAM, X99 mother board it plays well!
I know this game is under construction, some issues I have had are..
-Deck gun sometimes bugged can"t use, fires but no sound or shell used
-Use of periscope's or Con binocullars slow turning to get to targets or just using slow -yeah the real thing does not
turn fast but REAL periscopes turn a little faster than the game- plz work on.
-some screen tearing-mostly btwn ship's CON and Below Decks.
Good job and keep going Devlopers!!! FInished product should be GREAT!!!
I like the fact the UBOAT is numbered after U96 from DAS BOOT!!!!!!
I got this game on Steam. As of this writing it is still a work in progress. However, I'm quite pleased with the gameplay up to this point. The graphics are nice and solid. The ocean is beautifully rendered, and resembles the water in Assassin's Creed Black Flag. I got a chance to successfully play through the short story mode, and am going back to play a more open ended campaign. Sometimes, the objectives are a little confusing, like when I tried to recover loot from the waves after defeating ships, or struggling to capture prisoners from life rafts (not sure if I'm allowed to even do that,) but I like how this game gives you the freedom to do what you want. I know the game isn't quite finished, but so far it's is very promising, and very polished. I'm rooting for this game.
