Description

True Fear: Forsaken Souls Part 1 is also included in the True Fear: Forsaken Souls Trilogy

You are walking down a street you don't recognize, the fog slowing your pace to a crawl as darkness blinds you. You pause and look up to see a house; candles flicker in every window, like a beacon. Climbing the few steps to the front door, you realize many years have passed since it was last opened – it has been sealed with rust and purpose. Inexplicably, just as you know the candles are for you, you know someone waits inside. Someone who has remained in that house since before the iron began to rust. They have been patient. Waiting for over two decades. Waiting for you.

True Fear: Forsaken Souls takes the best of the psychological thriller, blending in fun and intuitive gameplay mechanics. The cinematics, puzzles and hidden object phases have been carefully developed and are steeped in a unique and oppressive atmosphere. Episode 1, the first in a trilogy, will long be remembered.

Good point and click HO horror game

So this game did something interesting. It tried to do point and click and horror and hidden object at the same time. And guess what? I am impressed! The graphics are great, the horror does work, and I love this game and bought the sequel! If you are one of those people curious about the combination between point and click, horror, and Hidden Object, please buy this game. It stands well on its own as a good adventure game. Would highly recommend!

Probably the best HOG I played

This is a HOG, so it is not unusual that the puzzles are sometimes illogical (you can often do certain things only with certain items i.e. it is impossible to clean a window without a very certain item even though you could simply use your hand and many similar things). However it offers an atmospheric story, point and click puzzles, a few mini games and if you don't like them you won't even have to deal with the name giving hidden object scenes (aka staring at one screen trying to find some tiny object) at all since those are optional. If the option is checked (which is default setting btw) those scenes are replaced by mini point and click scenes (The inventory will be empty and everything you need to do takes place in this screen until you finish or leave the HOG screen). The mini games are skippable and the game also offers a map so you don't have to walk through several screens to get item A to point B - one click is all it takes. If you are not playing in expert mode the map also shows you in which room you still can do things (find objects or use them) so gone are the day of aimless wandering around. So as avid point and click fan I really liked the game. As additional bonus there are optional items scattered through the game for collectors and it even has ingame achievements for those who want them. Unfortunately you cannot disable them as well as you cannot disable the big "Skip" message in cutscenes which is quite distracting and ruins the atmosphere a bit. The game looks good and sounds even better (good and fitting soundtrack). In the bonus section you have access to wallpaper, concept arts and the soundtrack. You also have the possibility to replay each HOG scene (both variants) and every mini game. After finishing the base game (which took me about 6 hours) you will get access to a bonus chapter which adds at least an additional hour if not more. Probably the best HOG I ever played.

7th Guest Lite

This game strikes a particular tone that evokes things like The Seventh Guest, The Ring, The House on Haunted Hill, Resident Evil, and a number of other mid to late 90s pop culture touchstones. It is not great, but it is a lot of fun. If, like me, some of the puzzles in games like 7th Guest and Resident Evil make you feel dumb, this game will make you feel like a genius. That's not necessarily a criticism, just something to be aware of. The ability to "warp" via the map is a wonderful time saver, and the hint system is helpful without actually solving the game for you. There's a good amount of game for your money, the HOPs are fun, the voice acting is reasonable, and the cutscenes are a bit hokey, but not bad for that. The production design and art style are very well done. The whole thing has a bit of a tone of a B horror movie, and that's okay, so long as you're aware of it. This would be a lot of fun to click through with someone on a big screen. Conversely, not recommended for small screens. I think a tablet would be fine, but I would have had a very hard time playing this on a phone, even a large one.

Love it

Looks nice, feels nice, highly entertaining and satisfying to play. You never have to search for ages what to to next and where, which usually ruins that kind of games for me. Maybe it is not the right game for players who love to crawl into the game designers mind to find out the special system for finding the right solutions. Or for the ones getting offended if you find things at places where they never would be in real life. Well. I don´t care. I want fun. This game is fun. Love it.

Decent HOG

This is a fun hidden object/adventure game. There is a paranormal/horror theme. One thing that is neat is the option to choose regular hidden object or 'escape' type scenes (the kind where you have to find the can opener to open the can that contains the key that opens the chest that contains the object you need to keep for later). There is a map that shows what scenes have actions available in case you get stuck.
