Description
Alan Bradley has finally perfected the technology to digitize people, which allows humans to enter the internal world of a computer. His program, "Ma3a," has AI sophisticated enough to store the entire gene code of a person and the mathematical equations necessary to transfer people back and forth between the physical and digital world.

However, fCon - Future Control Industries - has learned of Alan's research and is moving to take over the company. When Alan disappears mysteriously, finding him is up to Jet, his son. Jet uses his father's technology to enter the computer world and, while investigating his father's disappearance, discovers a sinister plot.

Four "primitive" weapons - disk, rod, ball, and mesh - are encountered in the computer world, though the disk is the only weapon that can be used both offensively and defensively. Jet will also ride light-cycles, both the classic cycle from the 1982 film and a new "experimental" update from designer Syd Mead (also responsible for the original light-cycle design).

Brilliant, nerdy fps from Monolith

The company name Monolith used to a staple of high quality (or at least competence) on fps games around the turn of the century. Youngsters may recall the FEAR series, older users might have fond memories of No One Lives Forever. I don't want to commit sacrilege, but I have to say, this game, sandwiched between the two big series, is probably their best effort. Tron 2.O. is an FPS chock full of action, simple yet well constructed puzzles, visuals that aged surprisingly well, a really enjoyable story, fun characters, never before seen weapons and equipment - all in a brilliantly realized environment with it's very own rules and inner workings (though the interface and gameplay is way simpler then for example system shock 2, the tutorial level for this game is about as expansive). Oh, and the puns. Humor is ever-preset throughout this one, and has a certain style, that may or may not drive you up the wall. It mostly consists of tech-related puns, and radically nerdy dad-jokes. If the constant glow effects don't melt your face, these jokes will. Even storywise, Tron 2.0 is a better follow up to Tron than Legacy, when it comes to gameplay (there was an official movie game), the two doesn't even compare. All in all, Tron 2.0 is a class A fps game from on of the all time greats, which still holds up surprisingly well. Highly recommended!

TRON LIVES

I cannot recommend this game enough, an absolutely amazing sequel to the original film and I would say a game that was released at the right time, to the wrong market. FSP gameplay coupled with being one of the first games to use atmospheric lighting created a wonderful and immersive vision of the world of THE GRID, however it is not your twitcher Quake/Doom style, rather a slower, melodic platformer with some wonderful strategic action. Using the Identity Disc is pure joy but you have to be patient and time your throws and blocks, not spam the trigger. There is some stealth aspects but they are minimal. The story is actually very intriguing with some fun twists and turns and the voice action, including Bruce Boxleitner as Alan Bradley. The OTS is spot on with many classic tracks. The Light Cycle portions are garbage though, but there is the Killer App Mod that somewhat fixes the frustrations, or at least allows you to skip when you have had enough. But seriously, I have this game still installed on my system all modded up and ready to go when I feel the need. Now I am going to buy it again because GOG does it again, it brought back a well deserved classic. This and the Ghostbusters videogame truly show that games can hold their own as actual sequels to films, sometimes even better that the actual sequels, and I enjoyed Legacy, but 2.0 takes the cake.

One of the best shooters ever made

This was a great game, I completed it twice so far, and now have a reason for a third! The beauty is that due to the visuals that we are familiar with from the first movie, the game visuals hold up, too. If you want to smoothen out some more issues, add wide screren support etc., I do recommend you get the TRON 2.0: Killer App MOD (http://www.moddb.com/mods/killer-app). It's easy to install, and the developer is still active. Beyond that, it's a fine shooter with RPG elements (rare for its time, and a novelty then), and customizable character. Especially the sniper rifle is bad-ass and I'm seriously loving the overall design. The gameplay is certainly challenging, I find, and I will say this: I'm not a 'pure shooter' fan anymore. I find games that purely rely on shooting without much other depth boring these days. Games have developed, and if I play a shooter it needs to offer more than "point gun, pull trigger" (or press mouse button). This game does that well, not because it's so much more than a shooter, but by clever pacing, mission variety and gradually increasing difficulty level. Even if you never heard of TRON or its premise (why the heck wouldn't you have?!), and if you're just considering this game because it's a shooter, that still is good enough! Get it! If you don't, you'd really be getting on my asymmetric photons!

Better than the movie sequel

That's not a big deal you say? Then let's say it's WAY better then the movie sequel. I really enjoyed it a lot. It may not be my prefered shooter of all time, but I had a good time and played it through to the end in a short time, which is not always the case. They took the idea of "human" looking programs and took it a step further. Gameplay is smooth, the controls don't have any serious flaws. It's definitly worth a look.

Recommended (if you like Tron at all)

The limited range of weapons might put you off at first, but I came away very impressed ny this game. It basically does everything right. It looks great, it plays great. I simply loved it.
