Description
Between our world and the world beyond lie the Titan Souls, the spiritual source and sum of all living things. Now scattered amongst the ruins and guarded by the idle titans charged with their care, a solitary hero armed with but a single arrow is once again assembling shards of the Titan Soul in a quest for truth and power.
  • Colossal Titans: Explore the ancient ruins of your forefathers and uncover extraordinary and unique titans, each with their own savage attacks and hidden weakness. Find and exploit their faults to slay the beasts and consume the primeval power that lies within them.
  • Simple Combat: Loose your solitary arrow at the monstrous titans and summon it back to your hand to unleash another forceful strike. Dash and run from the titan’s attacks but do not fear death, as it is both inevitable and plentiful in Titan Souls.
  • Arcane Secrets: This realm is not without its secrets. Long forgotten titans are hidden in the shadows and prowling through the furthest corners of the land – find them, destroy them, and take their souls for your own to discover the true extent of the power that resides here.

Full game or just an extended demo?

Completed my first playthrough, so here's a quick summary of what you can expect from this game, good and bad. The Good: ->Well crafted pixel artwork, with careful attention to detail. ( Many background animations, particle effects etc. ) ->Great soundtrack ( Best part of the game? ) ->Nice ambient sounds and overall atmosphere, despite the minimalistic style. The ( potentially ) Bad: ->Gamepad basically a requirement, to allow for 360 degree aim and evasion. ->Very minimalistic gameplay -- No items or skills to unlock, no level-ups, no loot, no nothing. ->The boss fights aren't easy, and will likely require about a dozen attempts each. Don't buy if you lack patience or grow frustrated easily. ->If you don't like boss fights, then this one is not for you either. There's very little to do in the game world, other than finding and defeating the next boss encounter. Personal conclusion: While I like the general concept, I feel there's a lot of wasted potential here, and the experience just never feels as satisfying as it could. I could make a long list of flaws and potential improvements here, but more than anything else, this game lacks content. There's not enough bosses, not enough areas to explore, and just not enough things to do. I defeated all bosses ( except the final, optional one, and I'm not sure I can be arsed to keep trying ) in less than 5 hours. And keep in mind, most of that time is spent retrying the same bosses over and over. There's very little unique content to discover here. Also, most of the bosses are rather underwhelming in design and mechanics. You expect "Titans", but half of the time you get "random geometrical shapes" or... blobs. There's good ones too, but the quality varies. Fights can be quite luck dependent, too. I still don't know how I defeated the final boss -- it just kinda happened. In general, the difficulty often feels "cheap". Overall, not enough for full price, but might be worth a look during a promo.

Pretty bad.

Good pixel art and nice design. Excellent musics. Good starting idea. Too bad that it got terrible controls, keybindings aren't redefinable, there's too much pointless legwork involved, there is no story and no reward for beating a boss. Looks more like an unfinished demo than a game.

Game can feel frustrating and cheap.

You don't have any hit points in this game, get hit once and you're dead, just one mistake and you can start all over again. That would not be a bad thing if getting back to where you where didn't take forever. Every time you die the camara lingers on your corpse for a few seconds and after that you respawn at the respawn points instead of immediately restarting the boss fight again, which means you have to walk back to the room the boss is in and wake the boss up again, even worse is the way you can speed up your walking which actually slows you down if you don't do it right. Also the stairs are the worst fucking worst, and there are always stairs in your way. This is just utterly frustrating. Bosses only take a single hit to kill, this can mean you can simply get lucky like I did and kill some of them on accident without even trying, it feels very cheap when you win in this way. Or when you try to endlessly beat a boss but it never works untill you give up and try something dumb and it just happens to work, again it feels cheap. Quiting the game is also annoying, when you quit back to the main menu you have to sit thru the opening again for some dumbass reason. Why must developers insist on wasting our time like this? Nothing can ever just plain work, there always has to be some bullshit included in games. Other than these problems the game is ok I guess. Get it only at a discount because it doesn't have a lot of content. Also, it doesn't come with the soundtrack, again more bullshit, you'll have to pay extra to get that.

Boss Battle and (little) exploration

The game is not for everyone, but it does what it want to do. It mixes a Boss Fight Mode with exploration of a very refined world in minimalist-pixel graphic. The world is huge enough, there are a pair of enviromental puzzle (much like Zelda, you will notice for sure if you played both). I also let a little hint for who wants to buy it: - Don't think the game is really over just beating the final boss, the truth will show only if you really find everything that's on your path. That's important because if you don't find everything the finale may be a little disappointing. I liked it because it's a very hardcore game and if yu like to push a little your skills on something different than the usual games this one is optimal (on sale, of course).

Short and minimalist but good

As most reviews say, this game represents approximately 5/6 hours of gamelay, and has little contents : small map, no ennemies, no loot, nearly no storytelling. But it is good at what it does : fast-paced, skill-based, non-repetitive boss figths. I should also add that the "hard mode" and "true last boss" give it a good replay value. The game is unforgiving but not really punitive. Gameplay mechanics are simple to learn but hard to master. Most boss require analysing the situation and having lightning-fast reflexes... or just being really cunning. If you want short fights that will bring your skills at their limits, this game is perfeclty fine. Some patience is required (I died 524 times on my first, 6-hours run...) but it rarely becomes frustrating since fights rarely last more than 30 seconds. Once you get a hang of it, managing to defeat a boss is a reward of itself. Il you just accept the minimalist nature of the game and use your imagination on the few elements you encounter while visiting the map, it actually has a pretty immersive atmosphere. Its full price is certainly a bit exagerated, but I would recommand getting it on sale without hesitation.
