Main goal of this project is to honour one the best classic cRPG and take the die-hard fans of the original Gothic trilogy as well as new players on one more adventure in the Kingdom of Myrtana.

STORY

Kingdom of Myrtana, a country whose foundations crumble under the winds of war and unrest raging throughout its lands. Experience the events that forged the original Gothic storyline and see with your own eyes how the creation of the Valley of Mines impacted people far away from the main continent.

Make your mark in a brutal world where your every decision has a clear impact on its environment and the lives of those you meet on your path.



Play as Marvin, a young man who was driven away from his home by the war looming over the horizon. The reality of the Archolos, a place he runs to, unfortunately proves to be far from his expectations. Rich merchants craving only for more gold, servants of the king Rhobar II who put into practice every new and more restrictive laws and waves of desperate refugees who just like the protagonist search for a decent life. Marvin will have to find a way to survive in this land of treachery, opportunism and opposing interests.



You are not the chosen hero, you are not a villain. You are a survivor.

Will you take everything you want by the force? Or will you try to help others in need?

A 20 years-late spin-off...

That's what it feels like to me, even just after the first 2 hours or so. Only came across a few minor audio-related issues (pauses after spoken dialogue lines being a little too long sometimes, some dialogue lines having noticeable "white noise" in the background) so far, but otherwise the experience has been nothing but *chef's kiss*, to-be-expected idiosyncratic warts and all. Installs and runs out-of-the-box for me (using the offline installers), although I did have Gothic 2 already installed anyway, which actually isn't required for The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos to run. You do need to own a copy of Gothic 2 to be able to get the total conversion here on GOG though. Setting up the Polish audio - English subtitles combo still requires a bit of manual fiddling-around, but is done in a couple of minutes: 1) Install the Polish version of the total conversion (corresponding offline installers have "_(polish)_" in their filenames) 2) Make copies of the six files named "KM_Speech1PL.mod", "KM_Speech2PL.mod", "KM_Speech3PL.mod", "KM_Speech4PL.mod", "KM_Speech5PL.mod" & "KM_Speech6PL.mod" (located under \The Chronicles Of Myrtana Archolos\Data), and move them to somewhere separate 3) Uninstall the Polish version of the total conversion 4) Install the default English-subtitled version of the total conversion 5) Move the copies of the six files named "KM_Speech[1-6]PL.mod" to the \The Chronicles Of Myrtana Archolos\Data location 6) (Optional?) Replace the "PL" part in "KM_Speech1PL.mod", "KM_Speech2PL.mod", "KM_Speech3PL.mod", "KM_Speech4PL.mod", "KM_Speech5PL.mod" & "KM_Speech6PL.mod" with "EN" (not 100% sure if that's really necessary but I did it anyway)

Like many of us here, Gothic 2 is one of my all time favourite games. I return to it regularly, and have found it to be a safety blanket of nostalgia during even the most difficult periods of the pandemic. And here we are, many years since its release, many years since I pulled Gothic 2 out of a discount bin for $5, many years since I was first blown away by its scale and detail and complexity - here I am, experiencing that wonder over again. Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos is an absolute marvel. Every single time I boot up this game I encounter multiple moments where I find myself saying aloud, "How in the hell did they put this together for free?" The scope of the story, the design of the island, the multiple approaches to each quest that we've come to know and love of the Gothic series - it's all there, in spades. I am in awe of the talent and dedication this team have put into this game. I am also immensely grateful. But gratitude doesn't pay bills, and this team sure as hell deserves more than our thanks. A fresh reminder that you can donate via their website, and I highly recommend that you do. This game was made by professionals, and they should be paid as such. Thank you, Archolos team. This is an absolute gem.

Like playing gothic for the first time

I'm 22 hours in, somewhere in the middle of chapter two. This mod is amazing. It's like playing Gothic 2 again for the first time, only even better, because this mod adds a bunch small, but very welcome QOL changes and features. The world map is awesome, with "natural barriers" i.e high level monsters places in key areas to slowly reveal more of the world you can go too. Quests are really in the style of Gothic... I can't say enough good things about it. This is real Gothic3 lol
