You’re outgunned, outmanned, and strapped inside a flying coffin. Are you ready?

Terminal Velocity™: Boosted Edition is more than your routine flight simulation, with combat as the main objective, and a straightforward control layout to thrust you right into the action! Explore nine unique planets, each with three levels, dozens of tunnels, and miles upon miles of terrain to fly over. To support you in battle, you’ll have access to seven destructive spectacular air-to-air and air-to-ground combat scenarios.

Features

Not as modern as expected, but still fun

What I was expecting when they announced the boosted edition was a remaster. What we got was a minor revision. However, Terminal Velocity is a great game anyway. I was one of my two favorite games of 1995 (the other one being Descent). Things that notably the same - The rendering resolution - The gameplay in general --- Things that are improved - Compatibility with modern systems. It doesn't use DOSBox anymore. Also, it should work on fast systems at exactly the right rendering speed. - The draw distance and fog of war. You can see farther, so it feels less claustrophopic - The sample rate on the audio. The original let you select between 22050 and 44100. The boosted edition is locked to 48000. - The controls. The original had a pretty weird default mapping, and a lot of things could only be done with keyboard keys. The boosted edition has the default controls perfectly set up for a modern gamepad such as an XBox 360 controller. --- So in summary, it's not nearly as much of a remaster and I thought it would be, but it's a really fun game, and the things they did make it more accessible.

Buy it for the DOS version

The Boosted edition does not add anything that the DOS version did not have, apart from widescreen support and greater draw distance, and even manages to take away or break some features. Mouse support is worse than in the original DOS version by far. Even at settings 1 for both X and Y axis the mouse feels way to fast and has too much dead zone. No manual saving system - DOS version has 8 slots to save the game at you leisure (except tunnels). Boosted version has only a single autosave slot. So no multiple save to go back to your favorite moments from the game. Apart from that is the thing with the resolution - I expected modern in game res but the game is stuck in 640x480, just stretched to widescreen. Compared to other modernized version of game I played in recent years, this is a serious downer.

Came as a free update

Owned the original for years, then got this as a free update. Play it just for the increased draw distance!

Buggy at launch. Buy for the DOS version

The remaster is pretty faithful to the original, plus some much appreciated enhancements. However, the mouse input is a bit buggy in certain situations compared to the original, but more importantly lacks the 8 save slots seen in the DOS version. Essentially Boosted Edition has one save slot that autosaves (+ quicksaving) whenever you load into a new level. In addition, basic modern controller support is present, which is nice, but there's no way to bind anything to the D-pad or control rolling with the controller. I think the biggest strike against Boosted Edition here is the lack of multiplayer support. It's a significant chunk of the game that's been cut out due to what I can only assume is budget contraints. It does include the DOS version, which still has multiplayer functionality. I really do hope at least some of these issues will be addressed, because I think there is a basis here for a modest but decent remaster. But I could just buy Doom 64 for less than half the price of this and get a much better remaster than this, actual game comparisons aside. The $12 price point really isn't offering much compared to similarly priced games. But if the price doesn't bother you that much, buy it to play the DOS version.

Game Ruined

Disaster of a port. I got it for free and it still irritated me. For starters they removed the 'fog' in the game. That sounds nice, right? Well wrong. Now you can see enemy ships floating and not moving awkwardly then cannot even shoot them until they start moving. All the textures in the second world wobble for no reason. What is even happening? The ground is literally shaking. The mini-map seems to reveal way more than you are intended to see. I guess due to widescreen added to a 5:4 game? Everything is just confusing and broken. Even autosave seems to mess up loading your saves. You cannot use stereo music anymore. Why? I do not own a surround sound system. This put me off this company. They destroyed the game. I played this new back in the day and the DOS Box version was much better.
