STAR WARS™ Battlefront™ II (Classic, 2005)

With the introduction of online multiplayer through GOG Galaxy, they have removed all LAN functionality that previously worked in the old (original) version of the game.

I play this game quite a lot. I have done ever since release, I have it on PS2, PSVita (although the PSP game) and on PC, it's fantastic, the PC version has some great mods, and there's hours upon hours worth or play time. Whilst some comments say "No online support" the online was actually shut down, that's not GoG's fault, but with GameRanger and other similar programs you can still play online. It's a great game and totally worth playing. (Doesn't work well in 2560x1080p, it won't matter to most of you but if you plan on using ultrawide or 3 screens...don't)

This, along with KOTOR and Jedi Outcast, are awesome games that deserved a DRM-free release. KOTOR and this are now finally on GOG, and are as fun as they ever been.But I need to specifically need to speak about Battlefront 2 (this is a Battlefront review, duh). This game is fun, you can be a Jedi, control an AT-ST, and it works beautifully with widescreen displays. You can play this in 1080p, which is cool for a 2004 (or 2005?) game. I mean who loves being Luke and slicing stormtroopers and then be a droideka and shoot armies of clones. People still play this online today! Not sure how the gog version supports it yet. The jedi battle stages are fun/funny. You can be other "heroes" too on both good and bad side (han, boba fett etc). The sense of scale is amazing. Being a little guy running next to an AT-AT on Hoth is just so darn cool. Flying a snow speeder around and flying over troops who look like ants from your height was always my star wars gaming fantasy. This game is everything the first one was but bigger and better. AND...there are map packs for all the maps from the first battlefront for this installment made by fans. The single player mode isn't much of a story but is still fun to kill time. I love...LOVE this game. Star wars fans get it. The action isn't all that tactical although there are tactics involved. You'll mostly feel like cannon fodder in some spots. But the sense of scale and solid gameplay mechanics make this an excellent game. unlike the first game there are also space combat stages. This game has a lot to offer. Even if you play alone you will get quite a few hours before you're tired of it.
