The start of something amazing

Star Trek: 25th Anniversary was one of the first non-text Star Trek games I ever played. So, it's easy to view it though rose tinted glasses, but in truth, this is a fantastic, if a bit simple, game. Basically, you take control of Kirk, Bones, Spock, McCoy and other characters, and go on missions, just like in the TV Show. The voice acting is great (and more than welcome, considering there is a non-talkie version as well). The music is a fantastic blend of tracks taken directly from the TV Show, with very good quality. The Sound Effects were also borrowed from the show, so you can't get any more authentic than that. The graphics are very well done for the time, this was 1992 after all. Overall, this gets a full 5 Stars from me. While there may be some games out there, even flash or java based ones, that have a similar play style with better graphics, this game does exactly what it sets out to do, it immerses you in the Star Trek Universe and lets you make all the decisions. I highly recommend it for old players wanting to play it again without fishing out the disks, or for new players who never got to experience it. The gameplay is completely timeless (and besides, with all the new pixelated indie games out there these days, this fits right in).

Very faithful to the series

These adventure games (25th and JR) are very faithful to what the series was all about. Going to planets and solving problems with a little bit of space combat. All the crew is voiced by the original cast and the sound and graphics are faithful to the series. The space combat is a little arcady, but I am ok with that for this game. What I am really after is the exploration and interactions with the crew. I can't recommend these two games enough if you are a fan of the original series!!

Star Trek: The Video Game

Throughout the years I've played a lot of Star Trek games: -Starfleet Command -Elite Force -Armada -Birth of the Federation -Bridge Commander Each in their own way very true to the source material and all of them excellent. Up until now I've always considered Birth of the Federation the best 'true' Star Trek game. It had it all; the diplomacy, the space combat, the technobabble. But now I'm forced to reconsider. 25th Anniversary does what no other Star Trek game to date (well except Judgment Rites) has been able to do: perfectly capture the format of a Star Trek episode in a video game. The first mission is a perfect example of this; you fight a mock battle with another ship. Once the battle has concluded, Starfleet directs you to a planet whose inhabitants report demon attacks. You warp to the indicated system, tell Sulu to enter orbit, have Uhura hail the planets' representative who explains the situation to you. You beam down and eventually solve the mystery of the demon attacks. On to the next episode! There are 8 missions like this in the game. You'll board derelict ships, visit alien worlds and fight interstellar pirates. A few of the missions actually had me thinking: 'Wow, too bad they never made an episode like this.'. Especially the last one, Vengeance, of which this game has an extended version, is pretty good. Perhaps even more important; this game (the enhanced CD rom version as it turns out) has the whole cast voicing their respective roles. Of course there are some annoyances no amount of fandom on my part will mitigate. Some missions really didn't have to happen as far as I'm concerned (looking at you Mudd), a few puzzles are nigh unsolvable and the space combat is rather finicky. But this is what Star Trek is all about. It's not about the space combat, not about moral dilemmas, not about technobabble, not about firefights or melees. It's about all of that, in one package. 25th Anniversary gets that.

fun game

this game is fantastic. played it years ago this and judgment rites are both great everything about it is fun. the point and click elements, the space ship fights, etc Even if you find controlling the enterprise in battle a bit hard at first you'll get it it's not a hair puller. they did a great job on every aspect of this game. It's just really fun to play.

I can't believe my eyes!

If you want to fully experience the Star Trek universe just get this game! It's the main pillar of all the ST games to date. I can't wait to play it again after all these years!
