Best Sea Dogs game for free play!

I understand that Sea Dogs City of Abandoned Ships (i.e. Age of Pirates 2) is reported to be a better game than Sea Dogs Caribbean Tales (i.e. Age of Pirates), but I beg to differ, and here is why. First off, like any Akella games, you should not play Caribbean Tales unmodded: please find the Historical Immersion Supermod, download it, and install it over the game (the GOG release works fine with the Supermod, and the entire procedure is very easy, just copying files from one directory to another). Once you do this, most bugs and crashes are eliminated, and the game plays superbly (although it remains good advice to save often). Now, a modded Caribbean Tales game is awesome for those of us who enjoy free play, because, contrary to the City of Abandoned Ships, it does not force you to go through a land adventure before you get you own ship and start sailing in the Caribbean. And its graphics are on a par with the City of Abandoned Ships, much better than in the previous two games (Sea Dogs, and Sea Dogs 2 aka Pirates of the Caribbean). All in all, the Caribbean Tales game is awesome, and a great game to play if you enjoy free roaming. On the other hand, it is a very nice introduction to the City of Abandoned Ships, if you decide to also purchase that one. I did, and I love them both.

The weakest game in Corsairs series

Well, I'm russian but I need to tell you straight: do NOT buy this game. It's very, very weak. I'll not going to explain all the struggle behind this game's development, sufices to say "it's complicated". And the product shows it. The design is very uneven, some parts of the game feels all right, some just demands unintall. When and If GOG releases Isle Of Lost Ships - oh, THAT's the game in Corsairs' series that everyone pirate-themed games fan really needs to buy. Untll then I recommend to play Sid Meier's Pirates. And let the Lady Fortune will be with you!

Great pirate game! But...

At last! I've waited Ages (get it?) to get this. Age of Pirates was a blast for me at the past. Pros - It's an open world pirate game! Just set sails and go crazy! GREAT sea battles, where you actually have to steer a SAILING ship, not a friggin motor-jet-brig. Thus, you need to employ some tactics, especially when fighting overwhelming rival. You get to take over bigger and bigger ships, recruit officers to add to your character skills. Aaaand that's pretty much it. Side quests are delivery/escort/transport missions, main quest is rather short and dull. Never finished it - at its last phase the game becomes more tycoon than action/adventure. For the record - land combat/movement is rather dull too. So, if you want to go nuts about sea battles and pillaging - it's a great game (4 stars solid!)! Just, don't expect anything else, really (in that case - hardly 1 star)! The music score is ENORMOUS!

Sea Dogs great This game bad

This was sold as Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales. It is maybe the worst game I have ever played and the first time i wrote to a game company and asked for a full refund. Of course the reply was no. The game is full of bugs, some of them basically game-breaking, Then there are the cannon that explode; sometimes three or four at a time. After just a handful battle rounds, I have had my ship lose more than half its cannons to manufacturing defects. Fortunately, some of the game can be modded, so this stupidity can be modded to a realistic rate of failure. Stay as far away from this game as you can get unless you are willing to buy the expansion and to do some modding. The expansion does make the game a lot better.

Average game but fairly unfinished

As my title says, the game was actually never completed from the devs side. The game as it is is ok but nothing spectacular, however there's a 'supermod' out there that fixes everything. If you do buy the game, be sure to get that mod too, it takes it from being a plate of meh to being a truly fantastic pirate game!
