Description
The Gold Edition includes: Risen 2: Dark Waters, and the following DLCs: Risen 2: Dark Waters - Treasure Isle, Risen 2: Dark Waters - A Pirate's Clothes, Risen 2: Dark Waters - Air Temple.

Set several years after the end of Risen, raging titans have devastated the world and pushed humanity to the brink of existence. Subsequently, monstrous creatures have risen from the watery depths of the sea and their attacks have brought all seafaring to a grinding halt.

The hero, now a member of the Inquisition, is sent out to find out how to stop the chaos caused by these creatures from the deep. His quest begins with rumors that the pirates who frequent the southern islands are the only ones who know a way to get rid of the creatures once and for all and end their reign of terror.
  • With an all-new pirate-based theme, Risen 2: Dark Waters aims to combine the most loved classic RPG gameplay mechanics of the original Risen with a fresh theme and setting on a huge variety of themed island locales.
  • A third-person role-playing game set in a dark and gritty universe, Risen 2: Dark Waters maintains the most immersive features of the original Risen, with multiple approaches to every challenge allowing players to shape the game world based on their own decisions. These choices will serve to unlock new paths, features and additional skills for the character.
  • Together with a highly interactive environment and a full day/night-cycle affecting countless aspects of the game world, Risen 2 will be set in the most immersive RPG game world so far.

A game to buy on special offers

Most of the people write about this game saying that it doesn't have this and that, however one can write as well about what this game has: nice environment, check; nice loot and themed items, check; themed world with ok-ish characters, check; fresh abilities and combat that does an ok job, check; a ship ( with which you don't do that much), check; good dialogue, check. The game makes you feel like you are a survivor at first, an explorer, though I wouldn't say it's as good as any other PB game. That doesn't mean it's not good! It's a decent game, which I say, is worth the money on special offers like now for instance, at release. If you see it in the future on sale, and you didn't play it, then buy it. To pay 30 $ for it I would say you really have to not care about $$$. It's a 11.99$ game at best. So, buy it at sale price, and embark on the journey of a soon-to-be pirate and shiver me timbers! Hoist the sails mateys!

Piracy can be boring, it turns out

Where Risen 1 was a wonderful return to form for Piranha Games, a game that was a bit like a remake of Gothic 1, and a bit like a new thing, Risen 2 is nothing like what Gothic 2 was, despite what you might expect. It is set in a bigger world, but the exploration is not very exciting and every separate island does feel separate. There's no stepping up in story or gameplay. Instead, the backstory implies something big is happening, but what you see in game is completely disconnected from it and final fight doesn't feel important, like it did in the original game. And gameplay is in many ways a step down instead. Fighting system is simplified, in-game menus are a mess of tabs and subtabs for every little thing, some of the skills are next to useless and the game is still (and I'm guessing it's the same version as the Steam release) quite buggy after many patches. And the piracy thing? The game tells you it's there, gives you pet monkeys and parrots, makes you duel pirates and drink rum instead of potions, but you can substitute piracy for anything else, and no one might notice. Right before playing it I've finished Two Worlds 2 and that game, out of anything, felt like a more exciting experience with a more engaging story. Which is disappointing, because Risen 1 was fantastic. And I'm hoping Piranha games will make things right with the third game.

Enjoyed it as much as Risen 1

Everything that was good about the first can be found here too. I never understood the complaints. I just finished the game a day ago and loved it. I really liked how fresh the game felt thanks to the setting and theme. Love the pirates, the voodoo stuff with the natives, the dialogue (often very funny), the characters, the pistols, the voice acting, the treasure hunting, the crew aspect, parrots and monkeys and ghost pirate captains and drinking rum and swearing and referring to the main enemy as that bitch Mara. Just a fun game. Does it have problems? Sure, though i can't remember anything that really bothered me. It's a great action/adventure RPG with a unique feel to it.

Merely a shadow of what Gothic once was

It's really unbelievable how a game that came a whole decade after Gothic 2 basically recycled the same structure while dumbing down everything that made that game so special. Extremely limited exploration on really small islands, lots of bugs, fundamentally broken gameplay elements (the combat system is really a mess, the fact they included a critical element like dodging as an afterthought with a patch weeks after the release really shows how much care was put into planning these mechanics), limited interaction with the environment (forget climbing or swimming, interesting "zelda-like" dungeons from Risen 1 are gone), simplified NPCs routines and behaviour (I mean, just compare Khorinis to the biggest town in Risen 2), terrible production values (like awful character models, animations, giant 2d-sprites for the vegetation...). But by far the worst thing about this game is how BLAND it is, I swear you won't find a single interesting character, line of dialogue or quest inside. Everything feels terribly generic and it seems no kind of effort was put into flashing out the setting, which is really just a bunch of stereotypes clumsily mashed together: evil titans, scruffy good-hearted pirates, noble savages, arrogant white men etc... There is absolutely zero sense of place and it feels the entire world is made up only by those few little islands you visit. Let's just hope Pirahna Bytes will eventually get back on track and deliver a worthy sequel to their first two games.

another new try of Pyranya bytes

it's quite different from Gothic 1 and 2 although there are some hommages of Gothic2(especially NotR). at first, it looks like dumb downed a lot. lots of cutscences, looks linear gameplay(at Caldera), game pauses when you use inventory or searching boxes. but at some point, you realise that game gives you freedom to progress the game yourself not like G1,2 or Risen 1. but unfortunately, each islands feels too short and not much things are connected each other. but at least another step to non-linear gameplay for PB(other steps were G3 and NotR which were better)
