Description

Rise of Industry is a strategic tycoon game that puts you in the shoes of an early 20th-century industrialist. Build and manage your growing empire in a living, breathing, and procedurally generated world that is constantly evolving and adapting to your playstyle.

As a budding entrepreneur, you will build factories, construct efficient transport lines, move raw materials, produce finished goods, and arrange trade with the world's developing cities, providing them with the resources they need to flourish - for as they grow and prosper, so do you.

Designed with an eye towards both accessibility and depth, Rise of Industry has enough strategic complexity and replayability to satisfy the most experienced fans of the genre, while its simple-to-understand mechanics ensure that new players will love it as well.

  • Experience tailored for every player - Specialise in just trading, production, gathering or any combination and research your way to bigger and better things.
  • Use PR & Marketing to gain favour (or repair damage) with your business partners.
  • Choose from over 100 individual products and manage the manufacturing process from harvesting raw materials all the way to delivering the end product to local stores & townspeople
  • Build and manage a solid transportation network to enable the efficient transfer of goods via plentiful trucks, speedy trains and high capacity airships.
  • Be prepared for fierce competition – Advanced town and city A.I., make for an intelligent and changing game world so you won’t be the only one looking for the best deal.
  • Town personalities – adapt a suitable approach for every town or face their economic backlash.
  • Huge, procedurally generated maps mean that you’ll always have room to expand your empire into whether in testing scenarios or sandbox mode where imagination is your only limit.
  • Be quick to adapt to the current business climate with contracts and random events keeping you on your toes and cash flowing in.
  • Balance environmental impact with productivity, trying to meet your neighbouring town's demands.

Not what it seems

The game is far more shallow than advertised. Think you can start any industry you want? Dream on. You WILL start with farming and then continue down the narrow pathways the game forces you in. The game only gives you the illusion of choice. In addition to this the user interface is really bad. Yes the art style is great. The animations are nice and crisp but the menus! Oh god the menus. So MANY menus. Want to make one farm operative? Have fun having to manually configure 6 or so individual buildings and their menus in bad, uninformative user interfaces. I'm very annoyed in truth. I was really looking forward to this because it LOOKS and SOUNDS so good but in truth, it is astoundingly bad. Biggest dissapointment in 2018 for me so far by far. Seriously. Don't buy this game without reading the negative reviews. A LOT of people over on steam are spamming positive reviews simply because it looks so good and it sounds so good on paper. I assure you, it isn't what it seems. I wish it was, but it isn't and I don't see how it can ever be. Whoever designed this doesn't remotely understand industry games. It's just full of fakery. Illusion of competition and interaction. Illusion of freedom etc.

Just not ready yet.

Looks great, runs fine. Feels incredibly clunky with a real lack of depth. There are some really interesting features in there - a dynamic region economy and towns responding to how you build/expand - but the actual gameplay just isn't there. You are given a dynamic economy, but then the 'tech tree' specialisation system pigeonholes you into a single type of industry, leaving you unable to actually respond to the economy until much later. I hope this game gets good, but it needs much more polish before it is ready for prime time.

Oh boy.

The game looks great and starting a new game feels grand. Setting up first, most basic, 3 building, chain ruins everything. Every single aspect is so clunky, requiring clicking through so many little menus, scrolling through resources list, clicking tiny pluses and minuses, Building roads is painful. Nothing is automated, you have to micromanage the most minute details (in clunky menus). And even clicking sucks, with eaten prompts and seeming delay between menu coming up and buttons in it "activating". There is some solid economy backobone in this game, multiple chains and resources, loads of logistics. But even thinking about building a sprawling, well ticking empire in this game is painful. And at this point in development I'm not sure if bringing the UI to reasonable level is even possible.

thin gameplay with messy menus

As other reviewers already stated, gameplay is thin and it is all buried in way too many menus, making it seem way more complex than it really is. It is just frustrating to play. I had higher hopes for this but it is still alpha and it might still turn into something great. The base of a good game is there (good music, nice graphics, controls well) it just needs more work and more meat on the bones. Considering Openttd is free, this game got an uphill battle to fight. Perhaps I see you again rise of industry, sometime in the future. I am keeping an eye on you.

Industry Giant 2 oversimplified clone

Square cities, simplified transportation, bland map generation, automatic manufactoring, stable market demand, monocromatic grass, pointy trees, everything is over simplified. Playing the game sums up in deciding where you put down your buildings, which is near the automated collecting building, that automatically sends them to the closer shop for a fixed price, or automatically sends them to the next factory, then automatically collects them and automatically sells them. Meanwhile you wait for the money to come (slowly) in to build more automatical things. One kind of truck, one kind of train, one kind of anything. The research tree is used to slow down your progression as there is little to discover as regards manufacturing. People who compare this game to OpenTTD haven't played it. OpenTTD has a slew of different transportation means. Power, speed, consumption change and must be taken into consideration when you buy your next truck or train. Train need to be formed and organised. Rise of Industry has only ONE type of each transportation means, no need to take into account consumption or ageing, no need to replace them after a while. A shallow management game that can be a decent time waster because you don't need to think at all while playing.
