Reigns: Her Majesty

The gameplay of Reigns: Her Majesty begs comparison to Long Live The Queen; the game is mostly trial and error, you die a lot, and the name of the game is stat management. Unlike Long Live The Queen, where raising the specific stats is the key to survival, Reigns asks you to balance four stats, neither allowing them to rise too high or fall too low. Either extreme results in death. You balance these stats by making choices, in a system reminiscent of Tinder, of all things. You are presented with a request, and either swipe left to disagree, or right to agree. Sometimes an event occurs, and you must choose between one of two possible outcomes. Each choice may lower or raise some combination of stats, though you won't know what the change will be until you make the choice. With each death you take control of a new monarch, inheriting the inventory of the deceased queen and the characters you recruited in previous lives. The story does not begin anew, but rather continues from where your predecessor left off. As a result death means very little, other than for those seeking a high score. It also means the game feels somewhat on rails, as it will proceed no matter what actions you take. The decisions themselves feel designed to entrap you. Many choices seem to only have bad outcomes, while others appear to have the potential for good fortune but all too often how to get there is unclear. Even when you make what appears to be the correct choice, in the face of an unending stream of choices it is difficult to feel like you are making any progress at all. The swiping mechanic does become repetitive somewhat quickly, and outside of using items very infrequently, it is the entirety of the gameplay. I will give the game credit for its somewhat clever design, which is both simple and nuanced. Ultimately whether you should buy it boils down to what you want from a game, and your tolerance for randomness and repetition.

In this one you play the role of a queen, who must face the daily problems of her kingdom. The system is the same as it was in the first game of the series( you swipe cards with different characters to the left or to the right ) and after a while, it becomes boring and repetitive, but the new challanges draw your interest and you keep playing. You'll want to resist and try to be queen as much as you can and in my opinion, this feature of the game is the most important; you'll learn to make though choices and to care about your fate and your kingdom ! 8/10

What can I say? I did like the minimalistic gameplay based on decision making, it created a very focused experience. The writing in itself was good and I did like that it was possible to uncover a twist to everything, even if I found the twist itself to be a bit uncreative.

A good game for a few minutes. Escellent way to distract enough for a few moments, before continuing with the work. Highly recommened.
